Are there any medications used to calm an autisic child who is highly agressive???

My son is autistic and highly agressive...I am not sure how to calm him so he doesn't hurt others...He has already broken another kid's finger. I am at my wits end and don't know what to do.

Answers:
i take care of an autistic child she takes ritalin and clonidine. There is also a pill called focalin. Do some research before you deside what to do. Your childs Doctor should be willing to help you with this problem if not try a psychologist

I have 2 Autistic sons who are both extremely active and can be aggressive.

We (my husband and I) took them to Hershey Medical Center in Pennsylvania to Doctor Ramer who specializes in treating children with Autism. We have seen a lot of terrific improvement with the therapies we have begun.

It takes some time to narrow down what therapies (medications) work, but some commonly used meds by perscription are Luvox, Risperdal, Prozac, etc. But these should be used only strict guidance by a trained medical professional.

My son currently uses Luvox and Risperdal and has had major management improvement.
they put my brother on ritalin and than when got older they up the dosage he used to bite him self but his head through windows and beat up his baby sister.
