A friend of mine has a 2yo that is starting to stutter...?

This stuttering just started and is becoming rather frequent. Can this be a normal occurance that she can grow out of?

Answers:
It could be. My boy stuttered severly at that age, and grew out of it in about a year. The advice I got from a speech pathologist was:
Talk clearly and slowly
Don't finish words or sentences for child--let him finish his thought.

Stuttering is, essentially, the brain working faster than the mouth. With patience, the brain and the mouth work it all out.

My nephew stutters, it's gotten worse over the years. He quit for a short while when he was visiting with us. I noticed that his stuttering could be controlled when he would sing songs. His brain was prossessing what he wanted to say before it came out, go to your friends daughter and sing with her or have her parents start it, we found it to be a good starting tool to get him speaking right. We also told him to slow down and think about what he wanted to tell us when the stuttering got too overwhelming. Maybe your friend should talk to her pediatrician about this.
