In your opinion, how much would you consider to be too much for children to watch t.v?

My grandkids are obsessed with watching cartoons. They'd watch them all day if I'd let them. It's really getting to me! When adults come home, I act like the puppy who has been alone all day!!LOL! I took for granted how stimulating it is to have a conversation with an adult!! (I'll bet I can tell you what happened on every episode of Dora The Explorer and Spongebob Squarepants!!!!) I try to interest them in books and other activities, but they are so used to watching these cartoons that they don't get interested in many other things. BTW...they are 2 and 4.

i try to keep my kids interested in other things. my husband bought a kareoke machine for my daughter, and both of my kids LOVE to use it. We crank the music up, and the kids go wild singing at the top of their lungs. My kids do watch about 1 hour of tv a day. you could also try drop-in centres (day care, where the adult must stay with their kids, but can also interact with other adults) or just take them outside for walks, and ask them to 'find' items, like eye spy.
good luck

According to med journals read by myself , 15-20mins per year of age is ok . personally I use it as a reward/privilege not a right .This angle helps when "little Angel" decides she/he doesn't want to behave properly or follow directons (cleaning up after themselves , behaving in school ,being respectful, using manners etc.)also . Maybe you could try taking them to interesting places so they can get out of the house and away from the T.V. There are all kinds of places that offer gymnastics and stuff like that where the kids can be around other kids and just let loose and play. Also the zoo is fun for them and educational too. If your zoo is as big as ours you'll all get plenty of exercise too. Also there are children-friendly places to have lunch or dinner. Good luck.
