tell me the pros and cons about having a child safety gates?
Answers:
Gates keep children safe from harm, like the kitchen or the stairs. The bad part is most gates are terribly designed so that they are impossible to get open while holding your little ones, or not holding them. I spent a little more money but found a gate I love. It looks like a normal gate, but it has a foot pedal, which takes a lot of weight to trigger, and when it does a panel of the gate swings open, either way you want it to. Completely hands free, not impossible to maneuver, and will fit in slightly larger door ways.

We only use ours to keep our son out of our bedroom, its not like we have stairs or anything. I think the only con is that now that he's 2 1/2 he can pull the whole thing down if he really wanted to!
Pro- the safety gate can keep a little one away from an area that is dangerous Like out of the kitchen while hot pans are on the stove or the oven is on. Con- the parent can trip while trying to step over the gate and thus get hurt (while trying to keep the kid safe). THe only thing I can think about it not being safe is of course putting it at the top of stairs, because they can come loose and the baby will fall. Other than that, I think they are fine and keep the baby out of areas of the house that are dangerous. I have one that I would use to keep the baby out of the den area, because I have all the cat food and litter boxes back there, and DOnt want him getting into that, and dumping out the cat water and food
We had a child safety gate at the top of the stairs. We got a pressure gate. Bad idea because we punched a hole in the wall. Better to mount it.
pro, keeps child safe(out of kitchen,bathroom,...) con, they learn too open, could fall on them, they could try to climb and get hurt. whenever possible,i locked doors to keep my son away,i also used big pieces of furniture that i could move easy such as couch to block thresholds, robinTo be safe, you need to have baby gates at the top and bottom of every staircase in your house until your child knows *really* well how to go up and down all by her/himself. The pros of having them are a living baby/child with all her/his limbs in working order. The cons are the price of the gates and the inconvenience of adults moving past the gates.
