is there a good home remedy for a tummy bug?
Answers:
If it's diarrhea:
Continue with his regular diet (he needs the calories) but increase the constipating food and increase his fluid intake. Starchy foods are best (mashed potatoes, rice, bread, etc). As for fluids, water is great, but you might also want to offer him Pedialyte or Gatorade/Powerade. Milk and milk products in moderation (for some children milk has a constipating effect on them, and in some it is the opposite).
If it's vomiting:
No food for the next 8 hours. Offer him clear fluids to drink. Water is best as it is directly absorbed across the stomach wall, but Gatorade, Pedialyte, Pedialyte frozen pops or even broth is good. When offering him the fluids, offer 1-2 teaspoons every 5 minutes or so. After 4 hours without vomiting, double the amount of liquid you offer. After 8 hours without vomiting, start him on a bland diet. After 24 hours without vomiting you can gradually start him on his regular diet.
If it's vomiting and diarrhea:
Use the advice given in the case of vomiting. At this point, you want to concentrate on getting fluids into your son. But because there is both vomiting and diarrhea, offer him Pedialyte (according to package directions). When the vomiting stops but the diarrhea is still present, then follow the advice given in the case of diarrhea.
Hope this helps.

My three year old son had a tummy bug last week. The doctor asked not to bring him in because of overwhelming calls about the same problem, so I made him drink a cup of flour water and it worked just fine.
It depends on what kind of tummy bug he has. If he has diarrhea or runny stools, the best thing is the BRAT diet. That stands for bananas, rice, apples, and toast. You should ONLY give him those things until the problem clears up. No butter on the toast even, but you can put applesauce on the toast as a flavoring.
If it's vommitting, rest is great. Plus, avoid thick foods like milk, which can make it worse. Give him small sips of liquid until he can keep those down, then move on to plain crackers. When he can keep the crackers down, you can try larger meals like chicken noodle soup or toast.
If it's an upset stomach (no vommitting or diarrhea, warm milk helps a lot.
No MILK! Clear liquids only. Chamomile tea is great and so is peppermint tea.
I dont know about home remedies, but Emetrol always works wonders for us. YOu can find it at Wal mart or any store.
