what happens to those (PARENTS)that hit their children?

Answers:
If the hitting is for punishment, I don't feel that anything negative should happen to them. I was hit as a kid, not abused, but I knew not to step out of line. Parents now are going around asking, "How did things get to be this bad?" It's because you all quit putting the fear of God into your kids. When I was growing up, which really wasn't that long ago, you got whacked for back talking. Now, parents try not to hurt the childs psyche. OH BROTHER! That's such a load of crap. Again, I'm talking about getting hit for acting in an inappropriate manner, not abuse. I hear teenagers telling their parents to shut up, that never would have happened in my house for fear of getting hit. I think parents should put the fear back in the home. Let your children know you love them, but you won't tolerate any crap from them either.

If it's disciplinary hitting, nothing really. If it's physical abuse (and the authorities finds out), they get arrested.

well if they get caught abuseing their children they could get in serious trouble and they should
Usually, NOTHING. Except they end up with kids who mind only as long as they are afraid, and not because they have learned how to behave properly

THEY INHERIT GREAT GRAND KIDS!
If it is abuse then they should goto jail and lose their privlage of getting their children back. If it is for punishment then nothing unless of course you cross the line. I only spank when it deems necessary, but I have learned that talking with my child works just as well as spanking, but I do spank as I said when it is only necessary, and you know what she still has the utmost respect for me.
basicly nothing as long as no permant physical harm such as broken bones or bruises are caused by the spanking/hitting
