This was very hard for me and my daughter. When she was 2 I tried to potty train and it just was not happening. On her 3rd birthday I put panties on her and said this is it we are going to start going to the big potty for now on. After that she was pottied trained in no time. It seems like an old age to wait but it was alot easier to wait. good luck and update me.
it is probably easiest to give your child a special something like a sticker or something like that.
Try taking them about every hour to sit on the potty. That is what I used with mine. I started training at 16months with my son and my daughter got the hang of it at 20months. It just takes alot of patience and understanding. You'll know when they are ready. Good luck.

Trial and error!!!
If it's a boy u can try putting cheerios in the toilet and telling him to aim for the cheerios. Or u can put blue food coloring in there and tell him that if he goes to the bathroom it will change to green. Sounds funny but it works. Or u can try having the father take him in there and if he watches his dad do it then he will understand more on what he's supposed to do. But the best one I have had work is the cheerios or food coloring.
I had both of my kids done by 2. Basically make the environment stress free, don't make a big deal of it. When I used the restroom I would take my child and have them sit on their potty. We would read a book and enjoy the moment. Also, I would give them a lot of "air". They had the freedom to roam naked (which I envied) and was able to recognize that they needed to go to the bathroom when there was no diaper and they had an accident. That only happened once or twice. Also, I would notice their routine and continually put them on the potty ever so often to get them use to the procedure.
