is it normal for a 3 year old to pass a small bood clot from his nose?

his dad is on the way home to take him to the er. i just wondered if this is something normal

Answers:
A small blood clot from the nose is not an emergency unless he is hemmorhaging from the nose or having difficulty breathing. Why not just call his doctor's office?

Most nosebleeds in children are due to either irritated nasal mucous membranes (like from dry air, cold, or allergies), or trauma (the most common type being "digital trauma" - aka nose picking!)

Run a vaporizer or humidifier in his room at night or try some of the over the counter nasal saline solution to keep things moist and lubricated. And call the doctor before you rush him to the ER. He probably just had a very small nosebleed that clotted before it had a chance to really get going.

i dont think so. is it hot where you are? maybe heat related.

no this is not normal it could be a sign of more blood clots which is not good I would take him in to be sure all is fine. But I dont think you have to much to worry about. I just dont know. Trust your gut and take him in.

No Not normal - But not terrible either!!! I had nose bleeds(The clot is almost always a result of this) from my very young years until my early 20's. I was told I had a thin membrane in my nose and that it was common. They also told me it would go away when I got older and it did!!!!

His nose may have been hit or bumped and it caused it to form a blood clot. Or it could be from dry membranes.

Use saline nose drops and take neosporin on a Q-Tip. Wipe the inside of his nose. Sorry to have to ask, but does you son pick his nose? Unfortunately my eldest still has this bad habit (and he is 8). When he was a toddler he would be a bit to 'aggressive' and scratch the inside of his nose. This would cause small nose bleeds or he would sneeze out a small clot. This also happened more when the humidity was low, drying out his nose.

I hope all is OK - please let us know.
