What is the best way to teach a preschooler to hold a pencil?
Answers:
There is no reason to teach a preschooler to hold a pencil. Let him/her enjoy life. There is going to be too much pressure through many years of school. He should enjoy life. He's not going to be any more bright at age 12 if he is forced to hold a pencil "correctly" now. Preschoolers learn by playing. If you try to teach things, it is boring and frustrating. Give hugs, and enjoy!

try to show him how like in exapln or in a sheet
You cant really teach a kid how to hold a pencil the "right" way because everybody has their own way of holding a pencil or pen. Just let him/her hold the pencil the way they want. I've seen some very weird ways of holding pencils! http://www.babyzone.com/features/content/display.asp?TopicID=50&ContentID=471
that's what I used.
With his hand. I homeschooled my sons, and now my grandsons. They learn by themselves. Give them age appropriate materials (bigger for little hands) and let them experiment.

my son learnt to hold it from the leap pad learning system pen, it helped him to hold a regular crayon (easier to hold a crayon or a toddler chalk first)later.Like someone said they figure out the Best way to hold themselves as they get comfortable.
He/ She is too young for that to be an issue. When the time comes pencil grips can be a big help.Let him use his own natural grip for now. He is still developing.
