There are really tons of good material:

We got into baby Einstein DVDs..My 2 yo started watching them when he was 18mo.
He really loves'em and it works for us because he is raised as bilingual child..so we can choose the language, depending on who is watching the video with him.

We also have a lot of classic books: Eric Carle's Very hungry Caterpilar, Good night moon, lots of nursery rhyms,
Pat the bunny, Pat the cat by Edith Kunhardt Davis.
we like the baby einsteins baby shakespeare and baby van gogh for our 15 month old. i will be getting baby wordsworth also which teaches first words and signs for them.
we just bought "my very first book of colors" by eric carle and she was "reading" it to one of her playmates today, so i guess she likes it we also like "the going to bed book" by sandra boynton for bedtime. baby einstein books are really good too. she loves "neighborhood animals" and "janes animal adventure"
Walk into any bookstore and there are tons of good solutions - simple stories with bold, bright graphics. It's also important that YOU enjoy the story, so find something you'll enjoy reading over and over. Your child is more likely to develop a love of reading if he sees you enjoying it.

I turn mostly to the library when I want children's books. It's obviously less costly, and gives us access not only to a huge volume of books (and music and DVDs), but also to the children's librarian, whose job it is to point you toward age-appropriate materials. The other nice benefit of depending on the library is that we have each item for a limited time - I can't get too bored with anything before it's due back. (And if we are very sad when we have to return it, we'll know it's good enough to purchase and add to our collection!)

Happy page-turning!
I am a book fanatic so I have lots of suggetions. I love authors Sandra Boynton, Laura Numeroff, Eric Carle, Shel Silverstein and Kevin Henkes.

I also love books where you can find the corresponding DVD/VHS and CD/cassette. My daughter was always thrilled when she could see her favorite book "Chrysanthemum" being played out on the television. I would sometimes surprise her during bathtime by playing one of our well read books on the CD player. The light in her eyes when she recognized the story was priceless. You may want to try Marsupial Sue by John Lithgow.

Scholastic offers lots of books on tapes so that may be a great place to start. Also try your local public library. It's a great place to find and endless supply of FREE resources. Take your son with you when you go. It's a great place to foster a love for reading! Good Luck!
