3 years boy not able to talk. he understands everything and hearing is perfect?

Answers:
My son is four now and he didn't start talking until he was almost 4. He's perfectly fine and totally healthy. He just started talking late. Some of my friends noted that their boys were very much the same, especially if these boys were not first born. (My son is dumpling number 4.)

That needs medical attention
Geeesh.... leave us hanging What did the doctors say....
They could be dumb (As in not being able to talk) I also agree Ms.Prefect I hope this helps and everything turns out alright.
I've heard that can be a sign of intelligence. Einstein didn't start talking until he was 3. Nevertheless I'd have it checked out. Ask him questions.
firstly, you are right to be concerned. hearing perfect? hopefully this was confirmed by an audiology assessment and not based on your observations alone. he would need an evaluation and possibly therapy from a qualified speech therapist / speech-language pathologist. in the meantime do continue to stimulate his speech and language development by talking to him, pointing out things, reading and singing together. also search these sites: ASHA (American speech language and hearing association) and Hanen. general google search of "speech delay" will also help. hope things turn out well and don't worry too much.
You should go to the Doctor as soon as possible. My sister's son had the same problem, he would'nt talk in his first years. When she went to the Doctor they found out that he was Autistic. I hope thats not the case but its important that you see a Doctor.

Good Luck.
My niece couldn't talk because she was tongue-tied (when the tissue under the tongue isn't developed properly, and it actually prevents the tongue from moving properly). Soon as she got the little bit of tissue that was holding her tongue down snipped, she started talking like crazy.

I agree, he should have a full medical evaluation to determine the cause. I wonder if autism could be a possibility, but I don't know enough about the disease to know for sure. Maybe someone else does.

Also, there is a thread in here already where people are giving a mother of a 18 month old advice on how to encourage speech. Maybe you should check it out. The link is http://ppqna.com/question/index;_ylt=AgZ9rZ2z6BA7hbIRAsgR4Nzsy6IX?qid=1006020307464

Good luck!
This is really a serious question for being asked here.
You should ask your doctor about this. I am surprised he hasn't asked you this during your son's 2nd year visit.

If he understands everything you say, and responds to commands, like when you ask "can you bring me the ball?" and he brings it to you..
Then, it could be just that he is a late talker..

However this is importnat and you should have him check. Get a hearing test, because even if you think it's okay, he may not be hearing *some* sounds correctly, and that prevents his brain to make connections between what he understands and how to say it.

It's like a missing piece in a puzzle..once he finds out what that piece is, he'll talk.

Also when YOU talk to him..what do you say? How do you talk to him. He needs to hear you talk, like you would not to anybody else..not baby talk. So that stimulates these connections.
Usually language growth occurs around 2 years old, but as others have mentioned, every child is different.

I think it is also not wise to suggest that this could be Autism without having all the information. Your doctor will be able to say more than anybody else.

People tend to lable kids with Autism as soon as it has something to do with language..but there are amy other sympthoms, such as not being able to make eye contact, tip-toeing, balancing right to left constantly, not responding when called. Not socially active, being withdrawn, etc...
I know a girl that didnt talk till she was probably 12 yrs. old but the reason why is cause she was very shy and didnt have trust in people. She talks like crazy now and shes fine.
harass your dr make sure there is no hearing prob. Sometimes they can be difficult to detect. There are so many reasons for him to not be talking. The best thing to do is get him to a doctor and get a second opion at two my boys had a hearing screen because they were not talking then two years later after several drs and lots of stress we found out that they had about 60-70% hearing loss and they both had tubes in their ears within 3 weeks they were talking full sentances. Every child is different and yours may just not feel like he needs to talk. As his mother you know your son and if you feel he needs medical attention get it for him and dont stop until you know what is going on with him.
Good luck

I have the same problem and I know what you are going thru. My son is almost three and he doesn't speak a lick but if you ask him to point out anything in the world, he knows it. My doctor gave me a number for a speech therapist. Also I just enrolled him in daycare in hopes that socializing him would bring him around. He's been in daycare for about three weeks now, and he actually added two words to his vocabulary, so this concept may be something you want to try. Also it is not uncommon for boys to be delayed in many things as opposed to girls.
