Is it ok for a boy to learn to go potty sitting down first and then learn to stand.?
Or should he just learn to go standing up! And where can I get a really good stool for him to learn to go potty standing up???

You're really into this potty training thing, huh? I understand, I wish I had more resources.
I used one of those potty seat inserts that just sits right on top of the regular toilet, and don't forget the "pee guard". Without it, he will without fail pee right through the space between the seat and the bowl straight across the bathroom! It's normal to start out sitting on the potty, standing can be weird for them at an early age plus their aim will be terrible, especially as they pinch, point, poke and twist their penis to see what happens while they are peeing.
Try out different stools to find what is best for your son and his height when he's ready. Regular stools can be too high, usually you only need 6 inches off the ground. If your son is tall, he may not need one at all. Make sure it's got a wide enough step that he's got room on either side of his feet, so he doesn't feel like he has to balance in addition to trying to learn to pee. a small short wooden box may be perfect, just see what you have. You may have to adjust throughout the potty training period, as he grows and his needs change. I've heard that when pooping kids need to rest their feet on something, the dangling legs can cause a slight strain on the leg muscles and distract from the job that needs to be done. A 2-level step may be the best for you, something you can use again later.

yes... short answer
Don't worry about the sitting or standing, you are right to simply focus on learning to understand his body and know when to potty. Actually, focusing on needing to stand up or sit down can confuse the process and make it more difficult for him to master. Focus on one skill at a time and all will come out fine.
It's absolutely okay - and even normal - for little boys to learn to go while sitting down first. He'll master standing in time.
That's how we did it. When it was time for him to learn to stand, Dh took over.
I taught my 4 yr old to go sitting down. When he finally got the hang of that, Daddy showed him how to do it standing up. It worked out pretty good, he kept telling me that he was "big like Daddy". He was proud of him self, and that makes for alot less accidents.
It is actually healthier for a boy or a man to sit down on the toilet to pee. It has to do with the prostate.
My son sat on the potty until he was totally potty trained. Their attention span is so short so if they are standing they will get board and run off. We had potty toys and books that were inside a step stool and that was the only time he could see and play with them. Then he started standing he had no aim and would get everything wet. A friend suggested throwing a Cheerio into the toilet so he had something to aim at. That helped a lot.
Yes, they will eventally learn when they got a little older,
or have his father tale him in the restroom with him everytime he goes and show him how to do it. That's what I did with my 2 year old son.
In my experience it's actually better and more practical to first learn to go potty sitting down. After all you can defecate and urinate sitting down and it makes less of a mess. My 16 year old son still sits down and only stands if that is his only option. He does this in part due to modesty (especially in public restrooms) and partly because his father rarely if ever stands up over a toilet. I now this for a fact because I am his father ;-)
I also feel that any man who stands up over a toilet has definitely not cleaned enough toilets. It's messy and unhygienic, especially for those who follow. However, of course, many men do stand over toilets and I think that it is incumbent on parents to teach their sons to lift the seat, put it back down, and wipe it off when they’re finished – it’s polite and more sanitary. After all how do you want people to leave a toilet before you have to use it?
This is more of a tangent to your question, but I would also caution you not to worry about how quickly you child is learning their potty skills. Be patient and supportive and they will learn in their own time – after all how many adults do you know that that never learned to go potty?! We all learn how to do it eventually, but unfortunately there are quiet a number of adults who give absolutely no consideration to those that use toilets after they are done and that is something that you can do something about and teach your children to be considerate of others! I hope that you find this useful.

p.s. If you do decide to teach your son to urinate standing up it can be a bit of a challenge at first to keep him pointing into the bowl. A cute strategy I've heard of is to float a few Cheerios in the water and have him try to sink them.
i think so its easier for the child
Yes, It's the normal training way for toddlers. They will progress as they grow taller and interact with older male figures by kindergarten usually. Also it will save you some cleaning up the floor and stool for a year or so! You know perfecting that aim is so exciting for boys for a long time in some cases.
You helped me with my friend's ? about school work (great answer) so I will give my opinion on this one....I think it is the only way to go. Sit now, stand later with a target to hit. Stand outside to practice if you live in the country or have a back yard out of neighbor's vision. I have babysat many little boys that say, they came from nice homes and the bathrooms didn't smell bad. My opinion, sit away. I also think it is ok for daddy to show hiim how to do it, also for daddy to take him in the shower to show him how to wash his body, take a bar of soap, lower the shower head and teach them to be a little man. Walmart sells fake razors for whn he is a little older.
Have fun. Oh and bleach water removes the urine smell from around the toilet.
Enjoy your little one, those were great days for me, I loved being a stay at home mom! I have hours of video tape!!
it is perfectly normal for a boy to practice going to the bathroom sitting down until he gets used to the idea.that means it is easier on him and alot less mess for you.haha.have fun with him and good luck.it is also very normal for the daddy to show him to potty the guys way.that is how me and my husband trained my 3 year old when he was learning to go.wal-mart has wonderful potty seats.good luck.
I have 4 boys and they all learned to go potty sitting down first. This worked out very well for me but then daddy showed them how to stand and go. And lets just say that now they clean the bathroom up most of the time. By the way, my boys were all potty trained by the age of 15 months completely. I think that just letting them run around bare bottom is the easiest and quickest way to train. I am a stay-at-home homeschooling mom so I have this time you may not. Good luck.
