How can you measure intelligence of a toddler?

Is counting or being able to say the alphabet better than goo old common sense. I would rather have a child that knows certain things are dangerous instead of being able to count in spanish.

Answers:
Bring them in the kitchen while your cooking. Does you child keep a safe distance and stand up on tip toes to look at the stove, or does she grab the edge to pull herself up to see? Does she generally get herself into situations she can't get out of (stuck behind, under, on top of something)? Does she charge towards something new or examine it first?

Generally, kids who are more thoughtful about their actions (even if they come to the same conclusion as other kids) have more common sense. They are reasoning out why they should or shouldn't do something. The kid who gets stuck under the porch probably didn't reason out the situation - they had no idea how to get back out.

Other Answers:
I don't think there is an accurate measure of intelligence for toddlers. There are so many types of intelligence tests anyways, so they probably wouldn't give you a well rounded picture.

I think that the child's ability to reason and use language articulately are good indicators of intelligence.
