What is the allowable time limit for timeouts for children ages 4 - 6?
Answers:
The rule of thumb, dictated by my ex-wife, was 1 minute for every year of age. Therefore, 4 to 6 minutes respectively. I'd adapt it to account for more minutes for repeat offenders.

5 minutes.
The rule is 1 min per age.
one minute for each year of age. I'm a certified teacher, and I learned this in school.
1 minute per year of age?
I've been using 1 hour per year.
1 minute per year. if you leave them any longer then they forget why there in timeout. but be sure and talk to them as soon as they get out. repete to them why they got into trouble and why it was wrong. and to prevent the question, "when is the time up?" we set a timer next to them because it is hard for such a young child to understand the concept of time. good luck
I work at a preschool and we believe that a minute for every year of their age. If they are 2 then 2 minutes, if 3 then 3 minutes, if 5 then 5 minutes and so on....
Time out doesn't work!!! It only causes the child to resent you and feel shamed. You want the child to control themselves and not be controlled by you. Logical consequence is the solution. Let the punishment fit the crime! For example: "If you're going to talk to me like that, I don't want to be around you." Put the child in her room, or you move somewhere else. "When you're ready to speak nicely to me then we can be together." This gives the control to the child to change their behavior. You trying to control them will only cause a power struggle. You will never win!

1 minute per year old.
She will grow up with low self esteem. She will eventually start believing she is stupid and worthless. If you are lucky all she will do is cry like her mom, or she could get so sick of hearing it, she takes her own life.. because.. hey, she's stupid and worthless.
Get her out of whatever situation this kid is on and take her to a shrink. For her own sake!!!!!!
