13, 14 & 15 year olds having babies...?
Question:
Also keep in mind, that most, if not all, of these pregnant teens get on state assistance to help them keep their babies.
I say enough is enough.
Give opinions on this quote
"We do not need to foot the bill for their sexual escapades. We should have a law that says any girl under the age of 16 (although I think it should be 18) who gets pregnant will automatically lose their rights to the child and the child will be placed for adoption. The mothers will be required to provide the name of the father, who will also be prosecuted for statutory rape." *EMH*
Answers:
If we take away their rights to their child and place the child up for adoption, I think that is sending the wrong message. They will keep having babies knowing that the state will take them away, and that's not teaching them to be responsible.
Other Answers:
i agree babies that young is crazy
i say if they play they should be responsible for their actions both the mother and father should have to take care of their baby with very little help from the state and us taxer payers
Thats just a complete joke!! ok they maybe too young to have a baby themselves but it doesn't give anybody the right to take their children off them!!
i know a few people around 16 that have had babies and they still go to college and manage to look after the children aswell!
i think you'll find that wen u have a kid u will also get some sort of benefits.
with our bodies we can do what we want. The only reason u wud take a child off somebody was if they were unfit to look after them.
i think ure an ignorant person!
I think that if they have any self control they will wait until they are emotionally ready to even have sex. There is no way an average 13 year old is emotionally ready to have sex, let alone take care a of a baby. There is definitely something wrong with society when it is starting to become normal to see 30 year old grandmothers walking around.
hmmmm i understand theres a problem...but that quote also poses problems.
firslty there are already hundreds of children in desperate need of adoption...why add to the numbers when it is perhaps possible that these 14 yr olds and /or their families could, possibly, provide adequate care.
the statutory rape charge would also cause a problem- prisons would fill up...costing us ridiculouos amounts of money and also ruining the lives of these boys who ok have made stupid mistakes but who really do not need their whole lives pulled apart...how many people become worse people as a result of prison sentences.
there is a problem...but i dont think this is the answer
i agree i think under 18 they should automatically have the rights taken and i also think that they should spend itme in juvinal hall for it this should be a crime kids will think twice about sex when the thret of jail is there mistakes happen but they can be prevented condoms most states have some thing called the heath nurse where they can get free condoms and birthcontrol enough is enough
I think your crazy... I had my child at 17 and she is on no state help. I also know this girl now 30 had her first child when she was 15 and so you know what she does damn good on her own , got 2 other kids now also. You can have a 15 year old and a 30 year old have a child at the same time, that 15 year old could raise her child better then alot of 30 year old. It just depend on what type of person you are, the family you have.
Don't get me wrong. I think having babies at that age is crazy, but accidents happen. Why should we take away the right of someone who carried a baby for 9 months and may love that child with all their heart. Not only hurting them, but their family too.!
I think that is ridicules that a child would have no rights to there own child and have to put them up for adoption. I think parents just need to talk to there kids about sex and pregnancy and if they do get pregnant the child and the family can decide what they need to do weather it be abortion or give it up for adoption or keep it. So if the child wants to have an abortion she would be forced to have the baby and give it up?? If i got pregnant before i was 18 and i decided to keep it i would never let the government take my child... As for the dad being prosecuted .. come on people under the age of 18 do have sex and we can't turn away and be ignorant to that an ounce of prevention equals a pound of cure...
I disagree with that. It should be sixteen because that is the age when you can legally get a job. However, even if you are 14 and pregnant you gave birth to that child that child is yours. No one has the right to take your child away from you. That would be like sayin to a 25 year old woman i'm taking your child from you because you cannot successfully provide for this child.
I have to agree and disagree.
Yes, I think having kids that young is definately insane, they can not adequately take care of a child when they are still one themselves, but being forced to put them up fpr adoption seems a little extreme.
If perhaps the Teen's parents or nearest relative could become the legal gaurdian of the baby until the 14 year old is 16 or 18, I think that would be fair. But it is hardly fair to just take a child away from their parent.
And as for charging the guy with statutory rape, if he is over 18, yes, he should be charged, but if he is under 18, no, he should not be charged for something the girl is just as responsible for.
Having a baby at this age I believe is the parents fault. If parent spent move time with their children they won't have this problem. I'm 24 and have two child and I believe that no one should have their child took away just because age
In reference to the quote, I totally disagree. But, hold on, before you get excited.
I think that laws requiring young teenage mothers to put their children up for adoption would violate a whole slew of other laws that exist to protect the mother. Rip the child from his/her's parents? This is not a good thing. The problem that our society faces, is that most, if not all, of these teenage parents are simply *unwilling* to be good parents.
Charging statutory rape is for victims... and most teenage pregnant girls don't really consider themselves victims of their boyfriends. What's the statistic on rape charges that are discovered to be consentual relations? Hmm.. we can't charge the guys for it-- they're only 1/2 of the problem.
The only thing we can do is raise our children differently. Some would think that we're already doing that, but we're not. Parents are comparing themselves to other parents, and not what a parent SHOULD be and do with their children.
The problem of teenage pregnancies is not that *children* (because they are children) are ABLE to have pre-marital sex, or that they don't have the supervision to prevent it. These are the effects and the circumstances children find themselves in when they *desire* to have pre-marital relations.
The solution is a revolution of society to realize that the heart of the teenagager is the place to start-- not giving them condoms. Don't try to 'prevent' these pregnancies by striving for safe sex... strive for abstinance until marriage.
Where are the values of America? and where is the standard for living? Blind people think they see and the deaf hear the wrong gospel.
No one has the right to determine if someone is "old enough" to take care of a child. I can name many adults who shouldn't have kids.......
It depends on the state if the child can be a legal guardian of her child or not, every state is different. However if you look at how much comes out of your pocket personally for state assistance I believe it comes to maybe a dollar or two a year. There are bigger things to complain about.
I also believe that there are too many children that are placed for adoption and never have a real family of there own. Why should the baby pay for the mothers mistakes?
Most of these pre-teens, teens having babies has agreed to having sex; and believe it or not a lot of these girls are the aggressors in the relationship making the boys do what they want. So why give the father a life long record of rape?
I do think that the parents of teens should have to answer and pay for their children's mistakes. I think that if parents had to pay for their children's actions they would take more responsibility at home and make sure their children were not running the streets doing what they wish.
Example: If a child goes to Juvenile Detention; the parent has to pay so much $ daily.
If the child gets pregnant; the parent has to do parenting along with STD etc. classes with the child AND financially pay for their children's education, along with child care while their child is absent.
People who are 30 years old do not even know how to take care of a child, they have no experiance. You learn from doing things on your own. I think teenagers can learn to be responsible and care for a child just like elders can, with help from family.
