Can the exposure to Scarlet Feaver cause any promblem to expectant mother or unborn baby?

Answers:
don't go getting scared about blindness...Little house on the Prairie was based long ago before we had the medicines we do now. If you do contract Strep-throat or Scarlet Fever, You Dr. can give you a prescription of an anti-biotic that is safe during pregnancy and you will be fine. Remember that the most important thing in having a healthy baby is to follow your OBGYN / Dr's advice.

Scarlet fever is most common in children ages 2 to 10, but it can affect people of any age.

Usually, scarlet fever is not much more severe than the usual strep throat. The illness will typically resolve without treatment, but medication, usually penicillin, can shorten the duration of illness. Treatment also prevents the most serious complication of strep throat, acute rheumatic fever, a disease uncommon in the United States at present.

As far as the effect on your unborn child -- there should usually be none. First, you probably did not even develop a strep infection, as the disease is not nearly as contagious as other infections. Second, even if you do get strep throat, you may not get scarlet fever, because some people develop immunity to the toxin. Third, even if you do get scarlet fever, it can promptly be treated, preventing any serious complications in her or in your baby.

Other Answers:
Scarlet fever can cause a host of problems to the unborn child. One of the most serious problems is the possibility of blindness. If you recall in the TV series, Little House on the Prairie, the eldest daughter Mary Ingalls went blind, because of Scarlet fever. Talk with your Ob/GYN about the risks posed by Scarlet fever.
