i am currently stationed in japan and i am pregnant.?

i wanted to know that since the doctors over here dont check my urine and do an ultrasound at every appointment and they are american doctors in the military. is this bad because i was told that civilian doctors do that?

Answers:
Urine should be checked every appointment and more often as indicated. Urine shows many things, blood, protien, bacteria, sugar etc. Urine can tell if you are heading into preeclampsia, developing an infection, bleeding or possible becoming a gestational diabetic. Ultrasounds are not usually necessary more than once during the course of the pregnancy unless there are problems. Also ultrasounds are generally only done after about 16-20 weeks gestation. If you want some tips on staying healthy, watch what you eat, drink plenty of water, exercise moderately and monitor your blood pressure. A sign that things might be going wrong is higher blood pressure or edema (water) buildup in your feet. Congrats and good luck!

Other Answers:
they should check your urine regularly for protein but you dont need an ultrasound at every appointment...

does anyone actually READ questions anymore?

It seems that that would be appropriate only if you are trying to get pregnant. Otherwise, you should be using effective birth control.

If you really want to know, why not just get a home pregnancy test? They are pretty cheap now.

Hi. I'm not entirely sure about your question but I think you're asking, "Is it okay that my urine isn't tested every appointment and that I don't have an ultrasound every appointment?"

Yes, it's fine. Urine isn't regularly captured at pregnancy appointments until 20-24 weeks (although it varies somewhat by doctor preference). After about 24 weeks, it should be captured at every appointment for protein and sugar content.

Generally, unless there's a reason to suspect difficulties or abnormalities with the pregnancy, there is only one or maybe two ultrasounds performed throughout the entire pregnancy. That single ultrasound generally occurs around the 20th week.

However, if you're really concerned about any of the aspects of your care, you have the responsibility to talk with your doctor about that as well as the right to receive a straightforward answer. This is your health and your baby. Particularly since you've said these are American doctors, they should understand that.
