Charlie horse question?

What exactly is a charlie horse that occurs in ur muscles? I'm 7 months, 25 weeks pregnant and I got a really bad charlie horse last nite in my right calf muscle. It was so bad it woke me out of my sleep and its still sore. What causes this?

If it is in your calf, try pointing your toes up as high as you can. So eat more bananas

Im not sure what causes those. I know they hurt like hell tho....My mom says that it has to do with your electrolytes being off balance and she also advised a little gatorade to help control that....

Hey there, first, congrats on the pregnancy! Second, you need more potassium in your diet....more bananas, etc. are a good source of potassium. I used to have them all the time and since upping my bananas i'm pretty much fine. =) Good luck with everything!! Also, their are some exercises that you can do before bed that might help with them.

they are in my "what to expect when you're expecting" book, basically you lean against a wall and push yourself up and down on your toes. I haven't had to do them that much it's the one symptom I have no yet experienced haha

Since you don't like bananas, you can buy potassium supplements. Any drug store should sell them - I take it for my legs as I was getting terrible cramps too. Try taking 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening. Also, try getting some exercise and make sure to stretch your calves really well throughout the day. Good luck - I know how terrible those are! I used to get those real bad in the middle of the night and I would wake us screaming. Nothing really helps. Sometimes it's that you need more iron. Take an Iron supplement before bed. All you can do is when you feel it coming on is pull your toes back, don't point your toes. Pointing your toes makes it worse. Ouch!
