My kid just started first grade in a new school, with no friends & suffers from high stress, what should I do?

Throw a party!!! Seriously, we moved around alot when I was little and I had a lot of trouble adjusting at this one school (I was in Grade 2) i started at half way through the year and used to fake being ill all the time because i hated it so much and i couldn't make friends so my folks organised a theme party for all the kids in my class and in my brothers class and we all went dressed up like Archie characters and it broke the ice for me... Just try it, what do you have to lose?
thats a hard one, kids usually make friends fairly easily, take him to a local park or playground after school in hopes he will meet someone he likes in a less formal setting than school.
