5 month old son?

when you put a 5 month old on his stomach, at what age should he use his hands and look around while on stomach? my son is not doing that yet, he does the rocking horse. He does not roll over yet, only halfway..what is the age for that?

Answers:
Well as everyone else has stated it varies. I have four kids and they were all different but here is how they progressed. First one boy rolled over 2 months back to front, 3 months front to back and lifted head, 4 months sitting, 5 months crawling, 9 months walking, 12 months climbing. Second one boy 5 months rolling back to front, 7 months rolling front to back, 10 months sitting, 12 months crawling, 15 months walking. Third one girl 3 months rolling back to front, 4 months rolling front to back, 5 months sitting, 8 months walking (never crawled), 9 months running, 11 months climbing. Fourth one girl, 3 months rolling front to back, 5 months rolling back to front, 6 months sitting, 8 months crawling, 12 months walking. Hope that helps.

all babies are different mine daughter is almost 6 months and she just now started doing that

Our son Rob was like that we had him on a formula and I'm sorry I cant remember which. It was lacking a key nutrient which helped with motor skills and development. Have your Pediatrician review the ingredients of his formula you may be in the same predicament. Well, if your son is a back sleeper, he may start pushing up on elbows later. My daughter has always been a tummy sleeper, and refuses to sleep any other way. She had good neck strength. She started crawling right before 6 months, but now is almost 1 (July 20th) and not walking on her own yet. She cruises the furniture and crawls everywhere else. All babies are different and develop in their own time and their own way. Congratulations on your little one.

well every child is different some will rollover at six months some later. you shouldn't rush development of any child

Well, every baby is different, so it's going to vary (as it sounds like you know). My son is 4 months old and is just beginning to use his hands to hold himself up and look around, so I would think anywhere from 4-6 months for this.

As far as rolling over goes, it's probably around the same timeframe, but slightly later because it often requires the coordination and strength from babies to turn their bodies all the way over.

If you're concerned about your son's development, don't be! It sounds like he's very normal and on his way to these common developmental milestones. If he gets to be more than like 6-8 months behind, though, then you should start to worry.

Check out babyzone.com They have a lot of info on there. You will be sure to find that info. Based off of your previous post on your son, and reading this one, it really sounds like you are expecting too much from him. He is only 5 months old.

Check out www.babycenter.com for development.

As for crawling and moving around, don't push it too quick as you can cause him to have a hernia (sp?). Our daughter didn't start crawling until she was 10 mos. old and let me tell you, I appreciated her not being so mobile. She is 13 mos. now and trying to walk. That will really put me on my toes.

You son will do things when he is ready and watching your daughter run around may cause him to develop sooner than most kids. They grow up so fast, my suggestion would be to NOT rush it.
