2 yr old and 6 months old and planning to travel by airplane. Do you have any advise ?

Answers:
1. Hunt around at the store for small toys that have a lot of fun value but are easy to tote around. Examples: stacking cups, inflatable mini-beach ball (like softball sized), board books, travel magnadoodle.

2. If you have a travel DVD player, assuming the battery will last awhile (because you may or may not have an outlet at your seat), you can play some DVDs. A video iPod would do well too. Get some headphones that your child can wear vs the ear buds. Or a laptop with a DVD drive would work too. You can also plug the devices in at the airport, you can usually find an outlet in the waiting area (usually a big post in the middle of the room).

3. Get a "leash" so that your child can walk without getting lost at the airport.

4. Pack lots of snacks and juice boxes/water for the plane.

5. If you can get a car-seat wheelie thing (It takes a Britax marathon, and can turn it into an almost stroller), that also makes lugging the car seat easier!

6. You can walk up and down the aisles for stretches on the plane with the child, and do it slowly and point out things to make it interesting for the child too.

7. Don't use Benadryl unless you already know it makes your kid drowsy. Some kids get more active after a dose of benedryl!

Other Answers:
Benydrel........give them both a dose before you get on the plane...it seems to calm them down and help their ears from hurting.

Please choose a flight that I'm not on, because infants travelling by plane (crying and screaming the entire way, invariably) annoys the bejesus outta me. Do NOT give them benedryl. It could have the opposite effect and make them totally hyper.

You need to get each of them a seat. Its very uncomfortable having a kid on your lap the whole time. I'd also suggest that you give them some kind of food or drink while taking off and landing so their ears don't bother them. Don't bring any major carry on luggage. You'll have enough to deal with going thru security. GOOD LUCK!

earplugs and a canteen of whisky..

enough for you AND your fellow passengers...

One adult per child along on the trip - ain't no way you're going to handle these two alone without a boatload of stress.

Bring plenty of (quiet) toys for the toddler.

Plan to feed/nurse the infant during takeoff/landing. You might give the toddler something to suck on as well, like a pacifier or a juice box.

Be considerate of other passengers. They are likely cringing inwardly (or outwardly) at the prospect of sharing an already uncomfortable, noisy metal tube with a pair of screaming children. Don't let the toddler kick the seat in front, don't let them wail uninterrupted, and try to get them to sleep if at all possible.

I have had a lot of travelling like this (I have five kids!!!).

Dont give them benadryl - that is unhealthy when they dont really need it!

To take:

* hangkerchiefs for the two year old to make it blow the nose - against earpain from the pressure.

* milk and lots of juice bottles for baby, the sucking will also help the pressure (beware: to much milk and food BEFORE the flight can give them belly pain, wait till you actually are up in the aire with big feeds)

* a baby car seat for baby to sit or ly in during the flight (at taking of and landing you will need to have baby on your lap, but not otherwise) There is a good chance baby falls a sleep in the carseat :-)

* tell the stewardess you want EARPHONES for your 2 year old to listen to music - dont do everything for it, let the kid explore the whole thing in the armrest itselfs - takes at least 20 minutes... :-)

* try to wai with any naps for ON the plane :-)

* Rest well yourself befor the flight, it can be very demanding

* take some earplugs with you. Just in case they really start crying badly its a nice gesture to the people sitting around. It gives them a laugh and makes them more understandable. This is experiance, people like you, even if its only as a jok, and old people sometimes really take it, because they cants stand the stress anymore. Worked for me...

However, sometimes they dont make a sound the whole flight - you never know. Keep calm, this will keep the situation calm. Dont listen to "are these terrible kids yours?" people, cause they are idiots.

Take it easy, then your kids will, too. They feel your mood and imitate it. So, relax, so that you can relax...:-)

Good luck - its not that bad :-)

I have five kids and fly with them every two month to and fro (so 12 times a year on a plane with them all) and its ok :-)

yep.. well with the 6 months you should breast feed if you are not still nursing a warm bottle and a good nap befor the plane then wake her/ him up befor her nap is over the baby will still be groggy and in the car soft music and in the airport just keep the babys nice and calm. ok for the 2 year old you should do the same nap thing like rup her back and just keep her nice and groggy. for both of them on the plane just the baby will stay asleep i have a 4 week old sister and i am 11 and a twin sis and we helped her with all of this at 4:30 in the morning! trust me it works just keep them calm and sleepy
good luck,
nickie take lots of coloured pens pencils and colouring books any other small board games you can buy for travel. just keep them entertained and they will be fine. i took my two away at about the same age. good luck x
