10 months and still no sign..?

My son is 10 months old and I still haven't gotten my period. I am breastfeeding, and I'm definately not pregnant. Could I be breastfeeding too much? Has anyone else heard of this happening? I feel fine so I don't really want to see my doctor, I mean, it isn't like I miss being miserable once a month.

Answers:
You are normal. ENJOY!!

Some women are more sensitive to the effects of breastfeeding than others. Most women will get their cycles back in the last half of the first year, while a few never miss a period, and others go longer.

Co-authors Dr. William and his wife Martha Sears have written about her not having cycles AT ALL while breastfeeding. My best friend went almost 2 and half years without a period, also from nursing.

The mother's weight plays a factor, too, as one study showed women in poor countries who eat less, got their cycles back faster when they were given more to eat.

Another factor is night nursing and frequent nursing... both help keep cycles at bay. (and no paci's)

You will ovulate before you get a period, which is important to know if you don't want to get pregnant again right now.

i have heard of this before

Enjoy. As long as you are breast feeding your child at least 5 times a day, you probably won't get your period. Key word is "probably". This is NOT, I repeat--NOT, a good form of birth control. alot of women don't experience their menstual cycle while breastfeeding. That is why they say breastfeeding is birth control. so you shouldn't worry.

It is possible for a woman who is breastfeeding to stay period-free until she stops. Perfectly normal. Enjoy it while it lasts.

No that is not an uncommon thing to happen when breast feeding, but if you don't want to get pregnant then I would definitely be using birth control. It is not a given or proven form of birth control (breastfeeding). Once you taper off, or start cutting back then you will eventually get your period, but honestly until you stop nursing don't worry about having a period. It will come when it's time. It might even take months after you stop nursing. Every woman is different. Take care and enjoy that sweet baby and nursing. It's truly the greatest isn't it?!!!!!

Lucky you!!! I wish I was still breastfeeding lol... this is completely normal... some women get their periods even while breastfeeding, you should consider yourself lucky... and as an added bonus my OBGYN said that breastfeeding reduces your risk of certain cancers... With my first I did not have it all 14 months that I BF him.

With my second I did not have it for 12 out of the 18 months I BF him.

With my third I did not have it for 10 of the 20 months I BF him.

My pastors daughter did not have it all 28 months she BF her eldest of her two nor 24 months for the youngest of her two

I breastfeedmy daughter til she was 2, after I stoped nursing I got my period within weeks. My son is 1 and I am again nursing & have not had a period yet. It is due to hormone flux's, enjoy it! YOU CAN STILL GET PREGNANT!!
