What would you do if you were told you had to pay to see a tape of your childs actions on the school bus?

This is happening to me now I live in Trenton Ohio. Im told that i must pay to have a copy made with the other childerns faces blacked out to protect their pirvacy.BUT I have seen another tape and this stipulation was not in place just a few weeks ago. This school 7 Mile Elementry School of the Edgewood butler county schol system. Suspended my 7 year old son off of the bus for 10 days saying he was playing agound and also grabbed the steering wheel. I asked to see it and this is what I was told by the superintendent of schools, who i called after calling the principal to get some of my sons school work because i dont have transportation to get him back and forth and to also come see the tape. She told me she wanst allowed to show it to me,because it is aginst the law. Of course I got upset!,she said she made a mistake showing me the past tape, and didnt know. BUT she is not new to this school and school ststem!.The superintendent told me "The tapes for their protection it is for theirs.
Answer:
You may have a right to the tape via the Open Records Act. Or, if you feel as though you need to sue the school, then your attorney may get the tape through a process called "discovery."

????? !!!!!
i dont think that is right. the other kids are b;acked out so u dont see them. you have a right to see it!
I would tell them that if they want to suspend my child off the bus, then they need to prove to me why. It is not fair to make you pay for them to prove something to you. I would tell them that you enrolled your child in school and need him to be able to attend. Maybe call the local police station to find out if it is illegal to see actions of your child on a school bus. That's my only suggestion. Hope it helps.
I would take the time to research the laws in your area to see if what they are telling you is really true. If it really is against the law how does money figure in at all? Usually when things are against the law that's it. No amount of money can change it. I would also ask the school for some other type of proof that your child did this. It sounds to me like you have some doubts so try to find out as much as you can within the law. Knowing the law is key and needs to happen first for you. And if you can afford it, retain an attorney if just for council. Good luck!
First of all.. What does your son say happened? Does it go along with what the school has said? I would call a lawyer and ask them this question, but it would probably be cheaper to pay for the tape. I know if my 7 year old was suspended I would want to see whatever proof they had against him. My son is 8 and if he did what they said, I would be pretty upset with him, BUT BE YOUR CHILDS ADVOCATE AND WATCH THE TAPE AND SEE what happened. there are 2 sides to every story. I would make them give me the damn tape, but thats just me, cause I wouldnt leave the school til they showed it to me.
I would rise hell about that and i would let them know that that is my child that they suspened and they can not keep that info from me. I would talk to a lawyer and find out what your right are. Good luck and i hope everythng goes good for you.
