my baby is turning 4mos. in couple of days, baby food??

my baby eats from the bottle and also eats single grain cereal from the bottle and now he is about to be 4mths and wondering what foods to start him off with because there are the jars, juices, etc and need to know where to start..thanks

Answers:
start with a single vegetable or fruit (not combos). Introduce one new food at a time, and wait a few days before giving him another new one (so if he has a reaction, you know which food triggered it). Babies really don't need juice at 4 months because they are getting their liquid requirements from formula. I started giving my son juice at around nine months. iam not sure because i nurse my son and he was eating regular food at 10mts of age and never ate baby food.
why the hurry its only going to up set his tummy and give him gas at this age

My daughter is 4 months old and I started her on the Gerber 1 level. She loves the squash, bananas and green beans. I know they say don't give them foods until 6 months, but my daughter just wasn't not satisfied with just formula anymore and when we would eat she would lick her lips and make noises so I started her on a small amount everyday. start with just a little at a time and just one food introduced at a time...some people recommend waiting a little longer to feed solid food... usually you introduce them with the evening feeding to help make sleep deeper...
In addition to the Gerber like products you can also mash up regular food. My grandson is the same age and I gave him banana bits when his sister was eating one and he took it well. I just fed him pea sized bites... you do need to wait for your child to have the swallowing and chewing reflexes mastered better before you introduce much food...you can make your own food with a blender or food processor and put the mashed goo into ice cube trays...an ice cube is about a serving... also baby's go thru favorites and may love sweet potatoes but hate beans..or vice versa... I would suggest you make a written note of what he eats and any reactions then you will know what you fed and when and can reference it to make future food choices.

It really doesnt make that much difference - but if you want to go by the book - you should do all the cereals first - rice, oatmeal, then barley. In that order. All should be done exclusively for 5 days to make sure your child doesnt have an allergy. Then do the veggies, and last the fruits. However, I've given my daughter things in varying orders and she has done fine. I wouldnt worry too much about it as long as it is stage 1 and make sure you introduce only 1 new food at a time for 5 days to make sure he isnt allergic. Good luck!
