Good first foods for baby?

My baby is 6 months old. He eats breastmilk, 1 bottle formula at night, and rice cereal. Today at the Dr. visit he said we should be introducing 1 new ceral a week. Then yellow vegatables, then green then finally orange. Then after that fruit, meat and juice.

I never heard of feeding by color! Has anyone been advised to do it this way?

I would like to hear any advice from anyone who cares to give it to the novice mama. Thanks!!

I've read about introducing foods by colors before. I can't remember where, though. For me personally, I gave my son rice cereal, and a couple of others. Then I gave him any veggies and fruits that I see. The important thing is that I introduced 1 kind of new food only at a time and stuck with it for 5-7 days to watch out for any allergic reactions. Then I him meat at the very last. After meat, I started buying gerber food that has combinations of ingredients like garden vegetables, or chicken and pears. I also gave my son watered down juice. I didn't want to give him very sweet stuff.

Yes, I did this with both of my kids who are now 10 and 8 years old. The orange foods are last because they are usually sweeter. Once most babies get a taste of the sweet they don't want to try the others. Also introduce the veggies before the fruits. Rice then oatmeal then mixed cereal - or by colour whatever. Check out "What to Expect..." series of books. They are very helpful but stay away from the problem sections - they tend to put negative thoughts into your head.

Sounds like you're on the right track. I have never heard of feeding by colour. Just see what agrees with him. Some of those canned baby food vegetables have a bean base that gives them gas. Variety whatever you eat maybe mashed up a lot - blendarized. But no jalapenos or habenaro peppers as yet.

It's because yellow vegetables have a milder flavor than green ones. My son liked them all though. Just make sure you only introduce one new one a week, to check for allergies. I also started my son on fruits and vegetables at pretty much the same time. They say to do veggies first to avoid a sweet tooth, but breast milk and formula are kind of sweet, so it's a little late for that.

My doctor told me to start with the green veggies first. As the baby gets older he will develop a better sense of taste and of course will prefer the sweeter tastes like the yellow and orange veggies and especially the fruits.
Also ,most of the baby foods now have "levels" and that is a help if you don't know what to feed him at a certain age. Start with level one and go from there. :) Don't tell my husband I am using his ID :) Good luck.

i started feeding my daughter solids at 3mths like pureed baby fruits and apple and oatmeal for babies so maby you could try apple and oatmeals he would love that my daughter did well ive never heard of feeding by color, but giving veggies first, yes. it does make sense though. its like going from light to mild to regular, thats the best way i can explain it. yellow veggies have the lightest flavor and orange ones the strongest. i would go with that plan, it sounds good.

Well corn would be good try gerber make sure it is tage 1 that will be the easiest for him to digest
Good Luck and Best Wishes

give him what you feel comfy with, just write down what you give him incase he is allergic to it....but what ever yuo give him, no sugar or salt, and make sure its pureed feed what you want...weve raised kids for millions of years..weither you feed him green or brown or yellow or purple it doesnt matter just use your motherly instinct

BEWARE OF APPLES(jarred babyfood)!!! I don't know if this is true of every baby, but they've given me plenty of trouble as far as rashes from the acidity, causing stomach problems, etc., and I've had 4 babies!
