Is it OK to take a 2 week old baby out in public? Somewhere like the mall or grocery store?
Answers:
The reason most people recommend this is actually for YOUR sake - you should try as much as you can to take it easy so you can heal from your birth quickly.
Some peopel worry about baby being exposed to sicknesses and stuff. If baby is breastfed I wouldn't worry about it. But do try to take it easy - you get a lot of attention, especially with a 2 week old baby - and it can be annoying to have SO many ( I mean like everyone that looks your way sometimes!) people bugging you.

I wouldnt. I wasnt takin out of the house till I was a month old. Listen to your grandmother she knows best.
The concern is exposing the child to public and you never know who is sick etc.
I think my kids were about a month old before we ventured out on a regular basis.
BUT you can take them out, just try to avoid letting strangers touch and lean over into the baby's stroller, etc.
It's all to do with them picking up infections. If the baby is breast fed regularly it should have enough anti bodies to withstand a short trip out. It is still new to the baby. Give your baby a chance to adapt with being outside of you while at home with you where you know it is more safer and germ free. Taking the baby out too soon will subject him/her to more germs as the baby's pores are still open. Wait til the baby is 6wks old.

if they are around people, they're more likely to catch germs of others. If it's just a small trip to the grocery, then i'm sure it's ok. Just be carefull to dress your baby appropiate so she does not catch a cold/sunburn. Babies this age are more prone to desieses since their immune system is not developed properly yet. Good Luck.
As long as the baby is healthy, I took mine out to the store when they were about 4 days old. With my 3rd however, he was a month and a half premature and it was flu season, so we didnt get out for about 2 months.IF SHE IS NOT SICKLY AND IT IS YOUR BABY THEN DO WHAT U WANT TO WITH HER Yes, providing she is in good health...you can take her out. Just don't let alot of people touch or hold her. They used to say not to take babies out because it would make them sick...but, as long as you dress the baby appropriately, and don't let alot of strangers handle her...you should be safe.

mother of three....by 2 weeks old my babies were in the photo studio having thier first pictures done....none of them ever ended up ill from being out in public.
some religions believe that babies should be kept inside, like mine. But, i took my child to wal-mart at 2 weeks, and have taken him baby shopping in the last week, he is now 8 weeks old. The only thing is that you should not allow people to touch or get too close. Some trashy people feel taht a baby is fair game, and breath all of their germs on any baby that comes too close.
The only time I will let someone get a good look at my baby is elderly people, I cannot be rude to old people who deserve our respect.
One time in Africa, my family was at the curb when a women ran up and started hugging and kissing my children, at the time 2 and 3, I noticed that she was crying, so I felt bad for her. I appriciated her prayers for my children, and assumed tht she missed her own.
as long as your baby is dressed warm and well protected then i see no reason why not...i took my eldest child out the day we came home from hospital!..she was 3 days old

mom of 3 i haven't taken any of my children out before they were a month old as i was scared to expose them to any germs\bugs members of the public may have. obviously if you have an appointment with g.p etc you should attend but just be aware of the risks.
It's totally safe, my 9 month old was taking walks in her stroller with me by the time she was a week and a half old. You do want to avoid people breathing on her or touching her, and it is safer if the baby is breastfed because they have higher antibody counts. you don't want to take them for long though, because prolonged sun exposure and the pollutants in the air can be harmful if they get too much. Malls are fine as long as you don't allow people to doddle over the new baby (which many people will try because newborns are so adorable) they actually have filters in their vent system so its safer than taking the baby to a crowded outside area.

9 month old daughter who has never had a cold or even an ear infection.
I suppose it is alright but don't let anyone tuch her and keep a blanket over her at all times I wouldn't. My son pediatrician says MORE PEOPLE, MORE GERMS. ( I have a 5 month old) Remember, at the supermarket you have to touch the cart, which a thousand other people with filthy hands touched (sneezing, coughing, fingers in their noses). and not thinking, you might touch the baby.
I think you should stay away from those places until her immune system is a little stronger.
Unless the baby was premature, which means they'd have an immune system weaker than that of full term babies, yes, you can take her out. I took my daughter out at 11 days, and she was perfect. I didn't let anyone near her, of course. Don't let strangers touch your kid. no keep him safe and with you at home for at least a month
Yes of course it's ok to take your baby out wherever you want to go - just avoid taking her on roller coasters!!!
Dress your baby appropriately for the weather, ensure you have a feed, nappies (diapers) and a change of clothes for her. Invest in a sling/baby carrier or a stroller in order to put your baby in to when walking around. If you are taking your baby in a car, then ensure you have an adequate carseat appropriate for your babies age/weight.
Small babies really are quite portable at this age and don't mind too much where they are as long as they are comfortable.
I think you're Grandmother is getting confused with having a puppy! LOL. Things have moved on since your Grandmother had her babies, and today things are done differently.
Take your baby wherever the wind blows you and enjoy the time you have together.
i took my son out at 1 week old i needed things and had no baby sitter he is breastfed and his Dr said that it was fine and good for the baby to get use to things it is your baby take her where you want.if you go by your self and get a cold or something you will give it to the baby anyways. i have 2 babys i took them with me nothing happin to them.
dr's recommend that you dont take them to public places like the grocery store or mall until they are 6 weeks old because if they were to pick up a germ (cold, flu, etc...) their tiny immune systems are unable to cope and your baby could die. many people do it and it probably would not harm your baby, but it COULD seriously harm your baby. It's like stomach sleeping, most babies who sleep on their tummies dont die of sids, but more babies who sleep on their tummies die than those who sleep on their backs. More babies who are taken to public places before 6 weeks die of RSV, or other complications from cold or flu than those not take out of the house. To be safe, I wouldnt do it. Or if you do, make sure NO ONE touches her or kisses her or anything like that and dont do it very often.
