How do you get a baby to like milk?

My daughter is just over a year old; and she's on formula at the moment. We've been trying to add a bit of milk to her formula, or give her bottles of milk (Whole milk), and she hates it! And I know she can't stay on formula her whole life, how do I get her to like milk?

Answers:
You can't *make* a baby like any particular food! And, she doesn't ever need to drink milk if she doesn't like it.

If she doesn't like milk, you can give her hard cheese instead. One to one-and-a-half ounces is the nutritional equivalent of a full cup of milk. (Cottage cheese isn't quite the same nutritionally.) Yogurt is the same as milk; 1 c. yogurt=1 c. milk.

Even if she doesn't eat any dairy products, she can get plenty of its nutrition from other sources. Almonds are very similar nutritionally to dairy products (they contain protein, calcium, and riboflavin--the three main nutrients in milk). Sesame (such as techina) also has calcium and protein (but not the riboflavin).

Many healthy adults around the world have *never* had milk or even dairy from any non-human animal. It is *not* required if she refuses it.

Other Answers:
Try a lighter milk like 2%. Use just a small amount in her formula, and slowly, over a period of weeks increase the milk level.

transtion her to milk
mix formula and milk 6 oz formula 2 oz milk
then go to 4oz formula 4 oz milk
then 2oz formula 6 oz milk
then straight milk

this helped my son hope it helps her

Try vanilla soy milk continue to mix milk with formula. but remember a baby needs the fat in milk for brain development so under no circumstances should you use anything other than whole milk.

Add some milk to her formula, so that there is still a familiar taste. As she slowly becomes accustomed to it, start to add more until you completely eliminate the formula.

I have heard of women putting 'flavouring' in the milk, even though I'm not sure if it's the best thing for bubs ;). Perhaps try mashing up a banana and flavouring the milk with that?

You could also try having her take the milk out of a sippy cup instead of a bottle. She might strongly associate her bottle with the familiar taste of formula, and may be against having any other liquid in there.

Good luck!

my daughter is 2 years old. she STILL doesn't like milk. right now she's on plain soymilk and she loves it, so try that. just don't get the flavored soymilk cuz there's plenty of sugar in those. By now you should be working your child off the bottle. Give her different fluids in a sippy cup. Mix any juices or milk with 1 part juice or milk and 3 parts water to start. At this point your child should be getting enough nutrients from her diet that she no longer needs formula.

Also, soy milk is a good alternative. Although you should not be giving your child too much milk or soy milk as both can cause allergies in the long run. Also, keep in mind that cows milk is not the best thing in the world for your child. Cows have 4 stomachs, and it is made for them to digest, not humans.

So if your child hates milk. Replace it with yogurt. And I am not talking about the high sugar content yogurts you can buy. get plain yogurt (or make it yourself with yogurt starter from a health food store and milk) Add blueberries, strawberries, mango, bananas, raspberries, whatever you like. I get whatever is on special at the grocery store and freeze it. This way your child will be getting the calcium she needs, along with great vitamins and antioxidants. As a bonus she will probably love it.

She may never like milk. My sister has never liked milk, even as a child. She also does not drink sodas or juices. She has always refused to drink anything but water. She gets the nutrients that she needs from the foods she eats. You can't make a child like milk, but you can get them used to drinking it.
