Why do people do this?

You have a baby. The baby is on a fairly consistent cycle of sleep/play/eat that works great for everyone in your household. Friends come over to see baby. It's baby's rest time. They want to keep baby awake, HENCE, making baby cranky and hard to deal with later. Why. Do. people. Refuse. To. Listen. To. A. Child's. Parents about these things??? Jesus!!! WHY???

Answers:
They assume that as a guest, their wishes take priority over those of their hosts. I think that according to Mrs. Manners they might be right, but then I ususally don't listen to that woman's advice.

I think the most polite thing to do in that situation, is to simply tell them that it is time for the baby's nap and you need peace and quiet for that to happen, so would they please leave? They would be more than welcome to either stay and visit after the baby wakes up (provided that they can keep the noise down while the baby is sleeping) or else you can perhaps arrange a more convenient time for everyone to visit later.

If the polite thing doesn't work, then just kick them out. You are the mother and you know what your baby needs most and it isn't being showed off to strangers (even if they are friends), it's is a steady routine and a lot of love.

Other Answers:
Because the baby is adorable and they can go home after they get him cranky.

Relax Sweetie. Life doesn't often run on a schedule and friends who aren't able to be around often are usually worth the disruption of your baby's schedule for a little while. Plus, if your baby has to deal with this type of thing he/she will learn to deal much better with impromptu events! You too! Because they REALLY want to see your baby awake. Perhaps at rest time you should pick the baby up and as you're leaving the room, thank them for coming - time for baby's nap now. I'll be back in a few moments - don't leave until I can say good-bye properly! SMILE when you say these things.

cause they are your family and you have a baby the baby is usually cute and they want to see it . its so cute that they disregarde the needs of the babays it not their baby.

I take it this has happened to you? I would rethink who my friends are for one thing. Also, you have every right to stand up and say, "Sorry, but its naptime for the baby, I would love to hang out but junior MUST have his/her rest!" Then you pick up your child and go into your bedroom. I DARE someone to follow and mess with you.

Because the friends might think that they will not get another chance to see the newborn baby again, until its older, so...they want to keep the young child awake in order to play with it as long as they possibly can, before they have to leave and not see the newborn child again...maybe. I think i have 2 answers .. am sure one of them is right =D

1. The baby is Cute
2. as it was said before , they are leaving and they wont have some hard time making him asleep coz they're leaving =D

it's your baby, your the mom. you make the rules, just take your baby to bed or do anything that you know that makes your baby happy. your child health is the most important. and you don't need the extra hassle, you are working really hard already. YOUR THE MOM, YOU GET TO MAKE THE RULES...STICK TO IT Because they don't realize. Even if they have had children, they either forget, or they think that they know better. I've been where you are, friend, quite recently.

It was recommended to me when my daughter was born that we put up a sign telling any visitors not to stay for more than 15-30 minutes, and to bring food, or help do the dishes, or something while they're there, to help lighten the overwhelming load of a new baby. I didn't do it. I sure as heck will next time though!!

Good luck.

well they dont see it that way, they see it as they are there and they want to see the baby regardless of the babies schedule. i just wouldnt invite them over. Because they are inconsiderate. They figure they don't have to deal with it so they don't care. My sister used to do this alot when I had my daughter. So I paid her back a couple of times after my neice was born just so she knew what it was like.

Once they leave, they don't have to deal with the baby crying. I know how you feel, my relatives do it all the time. It pisses me off, but what can I do. He's so cute you can't help it!

You are the parent and have every right to suggest a better time for their visit. Or invite them to stay through dinner time...and deal with the crankiness themselves while you take a break. Ha! Bet that it would not happen again.

They do it because they do not have kids, they don't remember what it is like or they never had a schedule for their kids. Basically --- lack of consideration and I am giving them the above excuse. My parents are always late when they visit. I told them that the baby naps when she napes, so it's their responsibility to work around her schedule. Sure enough, they showed up an hour late, as the baby napped. So, I made them wait and hour and a half to see her. Likewise, when my inlaws were here, she needed her nap so I excused us and took her upstairs. People who have a problem with that just blow.

By the way, anyone who says that "life does not run on a schedule" must be an unemployed loaf. I've never had a job or doctor's appointment where they said to just show up whenever. Movies start on time, stores open and close at certain times. The country runs on a schedule!

OMG! I used to get so annoyed sometimes! It's not the same situation as yours, but similar. On occasion we'd take our baby over to her father's parent's house. If she was sleeping when we got there (mind you this was still when she was young and just slept and ate) the relatives would actually wake her up just to see her awake and take pictures of her! I thought it was very rude and inconsiderate of them to treat a baby like that. I mean, they sleep for a reason, like because they need to! It was only a couple times, but it still drives me nuts just to think about it. I would never even think of doing that to someone else's kid. I've learned to speak up a little more since those days!
