how long after your water breaks does it take to have a baby usually?
Answers:
Depends on the person and if there are any complications, My Sisters water broke at 8 in the morning and she didn't give birth until 4am the next day. My friends water broke at 1 in the afternoon and by 6pm she had her baby.

It depends on the people involved. The doctor doesn't like it to go for too long though, as there is a greater chance for infection.
I went 13 hours after my water broke before they gave me a c-section...does that answer your question?
It depends on how dilated a person is, or if the baby is ready to go.
Depends on the individual, With both of my boys I had my water broke by the doctor and gave birth with in 20mins! My friends water broke and she was in labour for 14 hours
could be 24 hours or longer.
I'm guessing she is in labor? Could be a few hours to several hours or longer.
They want you to deliver within 24 hours after your water breaks because of the huge risk of infection to mom and baby.
right away usually...has the doctor checked for dilation? Usually within 24 hr.s
10pm my water broke and 2:16pm the next day I had my son. I had to be put on Potocin (sp) to get me into labor.
The doctors had to break my water, but it sometimes takes a while. For me after 20 hours of breaking my water they told me to start pushing. The baby has to come down..and sometimes, like for me it takes forever :)
it is diff for everyone. it dep. on how fast she dilates. i was in labor for 27 hrs and i had to have mine induced. the nurse broke my water and i'd say about 23 or so hrs i had my son. he just didn't want to come out.
most doctors wont let you go 24 hours past the time when your water breaks, because of the risk of infection to the baby.
hopefully your friend is in the hospital already, becuase it can be anytime.
my was broke at 2 pm, and i had my little girl at 8:10pm
my first water broke at 1am...i had no contractions before but after it broke my contractions were automatically 3 mins appart. I had my son at noon the next morning. But everyone is different....the doctors were just waiting on that last water to break but it wouldnt, otherwise I wouldve been able to start pushing with him around 8 am.
I went 17 LONG EXCRUCIATING HOURS After my water was broke!!! Ended up having a C-section!
Every woman is different AND every Doctor is different!!! All depends on how much Prenatal care she has had, How things have progressed so far, How she is doing - Pain tolerance wise etc. Many factors come into play here!!!

Been there, Done that! Mom of 3 kids!
It depends on the person. My water broke at 12:30 and my son was here around 2:00.
It depends on the person. Some can go within a few hours, some a day. They won't let you go past 24 hours usually without delivery, it can cause infection and problems with the baby. My labor lasted 9 hours after my water broke with my first, and with my second it was only 5. It all depends on a bunch of factors and if it's her first labor, it's bound to be longer then if it was her second or third..

mom of 2, OB/Gyn N.P.
that depends on a lot of factors mainly
is this your first or second or etc pregnancy? time can range from 12 hours in a primigravida(first pregnancy) to 15 min in a multi(lots and lots of kids) ,it gets shorter with every delivery.
the pelvic dimensions , if you are a small type expect to have a longer time in stage one.
single pregnancy or twins?
any diseases usually associated with longer time.
It really varies from mom to mom. For me, my water broke at 11am and I had my child at 11:30pm the next night. I was already 3cm dilated when it broke and only 4cm when I was admitted to the hospital. I has no contractions at all when it broke and had to be put on petocin to speed up the contractions.
Any where from 10 minutes to 3 days. Most physicians, because of the risk of infection, will induce labor or take the baby c-section shortly after 24 hours. If your friend is not in the hospital, she needs to be.
My water broke at 10:00 in the morning and I had my son at 6:42pm, the doctors told me that it could be up to 2 days before I had him.
You should go to the hospital right away if your water breaks! She needs to be checked out whether labor has started or not. If it does not start within 24hrs of her water breaking, they will usually induce.
The woman should deliver within 24 hrs of the water breaking, can lead to infection for both momma and baby; it's pretty important that she get to the dr. now.
Usually it's between a few minutes (assuming the baby wasn't born *before* the water broke) and a few weeks. It depends on how ready the mother's body is for labor, and whether the bag of waters reseals itself.
A lot of doctors won't "let" a woman wait more than 24 hours except in unusual circumstances (like if she's only 30 weeks pregnant!). The woman doesn't have to agree to the doctor's recommendations, though; she could choose to wait. The real risk of infection after the membranes rupture is that doctors and nurses can't keep their hands out of the woman's vagina and can *cause* the infection. She may want to refuse all internal exams to avoid this risk. She can also take her temperature twice a day to detect the first signs of infection, and only then decide to be treated for something that didn't even exist before.
I would go to the hospital. Be safe then sorry. If they want her to wait they will send her home.
took me 5 hours
