What could be the reason behind the negative behavior changes in my 2 month old after his first set of shots?

My two month old had his shots about a week ago and ever since then he has become very irritable and almost impossible to console. I have tried tylenol but he doesn't seem to be in any pain. This has happened with my other kids but I always thought it was in my head, and now it seems to me that i have lost my happy smiley baby because he is just very upset all the time now.

Answers:
Check his legs, or the injection site. My son broke out in a rash after his 4 month shots, but it was from the adhesive on the bandage not from the shots. They can also get knots in the muscles where the shot was that irritates them. If so, use a warm heating pad or something similar and try to massage and/or excercise his legs to work out the knot and work in the medicine, though none should be remaining after too long. For his next set of shots, try giving him a dose of tylenol about 30 minutes before his shots, ask your doctor what his appropriate dosing is.

I also tried letting the doctor/nurse hold the baby, or be the one that my baby sees while getting the shots while I hold him, so that I could be the "rescuer" after the fact and he wouldn't associate me so easily with the pain. I also nursed him immediately afterwards for comfort.

Good luck.

Other Answers:
shots don't do anything. people have lived without them for thousands of years and did just fine. The shots' sideffect was probably just what is happening to your kid now. dont get him anymore shots, you've already shortened his lifespan a year or two
Shots can give kids flu-like symptoms for several weeks. My first two children experienced them and were quite cranky for a while afterwards. I don't agree you've shortened their lifespan. People did do without shots for thousands of years, but people also contracted Polio and Diptheria.

Give them him some baby Tylenol and alert the doctor. You might be able to push back the next round until he is older. It seems they get over the side effects faster.

PS : The Tylenol isn't for pain, it's to make them sleep.
