how do you get an infant to sleep in her bed and NOT the swing.?
Answers:
I have 4 children. I found a product made by fisher price, that may be a life-saver for you and your wife's problem. It is a rocking bassinette. I mean a little, travel-size, battery powered one. It comes with a safety belt set-up like the ones used in bouncy seats. It folds up when you need the space too( if you're limited like we were). It was a life-saver for us with my littlest one. He loved it, now my daughter uses it for her dolls!

Sleeping in the swing won't hurt her - my daughter only slept in the swing or in my arms (or in bed beside me) for the first six or so months of her life. If this is creating problems, you could try to gently move her from the swing to her crib once she's already sleep - but that's easier said than done.
To learn to go to sleep in her crib, she'll have to learn to self-soothe. Be sure and put her in her crib while she's awake, happy and alert, and STAY THERE to play with her to show her that the crib is a pleasant place. Do this a couple of times a day, at first. Then, when you're ready for her to sleep there, put her in drowsy but still awake. Stay nearby the first few times and sing softly or pat/rub her back to help her calm down and drift off to sleep. Before long, she'll be doing it on her own.
Good luck, I remember all too well that this wasn't much fun to deal with!

Been there, done that.
start out by putting the swing over the bed, then wove the bed when she get's in it. It may seem stupid but it works.
I know lots of people who let their babies nap in the swing. I don't know about sleeping in it all night though. I don't think it would be harmful, just a hard habit to break as you have already found out. The baby has got to sleep in her bed sometime right? When we first brought our son home from the hospital he didn't want to sleep in his bed either. He slept in his bouncey chair. We ended up putting his chair in the crib for a couple of nights, then easing him out of it to sleep. I have also heard of some people putting babies in their car seats in the crib to sleep. One of the things that bothered our son was that the crib was so big. We had a sleep positioner so that he had to remain on his back in one spot. Then we piled blankets in the other half of the crib to take up a lot of the empty room. Also we have a sleep CD that we play and a night light. Our son also liked to be swaddled really tight for the first 3 months. It imitates the environment of the womb. You may want to check out the book, "The Happiest Baby on the Block." All of the ladies at our church have passed it among themselves and it has been a big help.
P.S. I wouldn't try piling blankets in the end of the crib unless you know for certain that your baby will sleep in one spot. We used the DEX deluxe Sleep Positioner. You can order it online from Target.com It is raised to help with acid reflux, it has adjustable sides for all different sizes of babies, and it is made of memory foam to help with avoiding flat head syndrome.

Happiest Baby on the Block.
Wait till she's completely knocked out before you put her down...and still keep your face close to hers and your arms around her. If she wakes up she'll think you're still holding her and hopefully go back to sleep..then you can slowly tear yourself away. It's no guarantee but it worked for me.
