6 yr. old kissing girls...?
Question:
I am going to talk to him tonight about this. I am concerned to speak him in a way where he understands that he can't do that, and also so he doesn't feel badly or get a hang-up.
Any experience with this?
Answers:
My son kissed a girl at school when he was younger. Both children wanted to but only my son got in trouble when the girls parent complained.
Here is what we did right, wrong or otherwise.
We sat our son down and told him...
"We understand that you may see older people kissing but at your age it is too young to show that kind of feelings outside of the family. It's not that it's wrong but you have to know better what could happen. The other person may not realise it but they could have a cold or something like that, that could be transmitted when kissing. Older people understand this better and you will learn over time when it is the right time to do things like this. For now just say your sorry to the girl and ask her to forgive you. And don't worry about it but also don't kiss people other than family until your older and understand this stuff better."
That seemed to work and blaming it on the possiblity of passing a simple cold was much easier to understand than other diseases and he stopped.
Best of Luck
That is chancably behavior that is learned. Whether its from people or TV. When you have the talk with him, try not to make him feel like its dirty or wrong for him to do, but more of an activity that is for adults. Tell him that its normal but not for a 6 year old.
