Age girls start?

Question:
My daughter just turned 10. She started developing enough to need a bra last year. I noticed the last time she showered she is starting to get hair down there. I have heard girls usually start their periods the same age their moms did. I didn't start until I was 13 but I don't think I was as young as her when I started to develop in other areas. Any info?

Answers:
I started wearing a bra in 4th grade and probably needed one a little earlier than that. I started my period at 10. I felt like my childhood ended too early, but I'm rather enjoying go through menopause in my 30's. I know I'll be done with it....finally!!

But, back to point, yes girls often do start around the same age as their mothers. However, it's proven that now days because of the steroids and such in the foods we eat, especially meats, girls are developing much sooner. My daughter is about to turn 9 and is wearing a bra already....and she needs it!! I figured since I was 10 when I started, she had better know what a period is.

I had a very short talk with her, then gave her the book "The Care & Keeping of YOU"....The Body Book for Girls. It's an American Girl book. It's just wonderful and I recommend it to all mothers with daughters. It has everything from hair and skin care to developing breasts and periods. It even talks about tampons and pads....how to choose what's best for you. It deals with emotions and acne and everything in between.

Good luck!!
My daughter is 14 and she has not started her period yet.She has been wearing a bra for 2 years now.She started developing pretty fast except for that one thing I am not looking forward to.
