Can I send my 6 year old son to dance leasons ?
Answers:
Dance is wonderful for both boys and girls! It helps them learn about the ways their body can move and work on gross motor skills like balance and coordination. It can really help a child who is a little less coordinated (like my daughter was). I would take him to a class that offers two or more types of dance taught at the same class (ie: ballet and tap, tap and jazz, gymnastics and hip hop). This way it will give him a variety of skills as well as a variety of styles. After a few months of classes, ask him what he really enjoys, and enter him in a class that has that style predominantly. It is great to hear that some people don't attach a stigma to boys doing traditional "girl" things... good for you! Teach your son the same thing our society tries to teach our girls- that you can do anything! Growing up, my younger brother took dance classes for 7-8 years with me. It really helped with his coordination and self-esteem.
why would you send your son to dance, does he want to?
