What is the hardest thing to prepare for when a child is getting ready for kindergarten.?
Answers:
YOU! It's hardest on parents watching their little ones leave home for the first time. But it is a joyous occasion (don't forget the camera). My wife and I cried when our kids started school it never gets easier.
I'd advise you to ask if you can help in class (our school has Moms and Dads come in three to four days a week as helpers). It's precious to see your child meet their first friends, begun exploring their environment and play in social settings. It's cool and fun. and you get lots of cool projects to hang on the fridge.
I would start study habits early in life setup homework time just after school and give them a reward each week when they finish their work. It may be simple stuff but it's fun to help them grow and learn at home. Don't forget to read to them every night. They will learn math, lots of words and writing as well. You should practice writing their name at home before school begins. They grow so much in that first year get a box and save the memories, there will be plenty to go around.
Enjoy these moments, before you now it they'll be in high school. :-)

letting go....I cried when my son went to his first day....and the day he graduated high school last June I cried again.
What you will now do with your time while he's gone! What you will do if he's been naughty at school. How you'll handle it if he has issues with another student, or if he has an "accident" and everyone laughs. And the actual letting go part, where you put him on the bus, or walk him to the school and watch him go through the doors. It's all part of the process of growing up...for them and us. This too shall pass. And it will be ok. <*)))><
