What is a treatment for Peridontidal disease?
Question:
Answers:
It depends on the specific disease, and degree of disease.
Personally I had severe gum recession and had 6 soft tissue grafts to address the problem, as well as changes in diet, brushing and flossing habits. The soft tissue graft involves grafting tissue from the palate onto the area where its needed. The great thing is that the palate tissue regenerates, so no tissue is lost.
Brushing: make sure to brush with a soft tooth brush on the teeth. Use a sulcus tooth brush on the gum line. Brush only in small circular motions, not side to side, as that damages the gums. Use a fluoride mouth wash; do not use an alcohol based mouthwash. Floss correctly. Do not use tartar control toothpaste, the only ingredient in your toothpaste should be sodium fluoride.
Eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables; these help keep the mouth moist which is beneficial to the gums. Drink plenty of water, avoid sugary foods and drinks.
