Why people (and sadly, some doctors as well) call standard Medicine "allopathy"?

Question:

The term "allopathy" was invented by German physician Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843). He conjoined allos "opposite" and pathos "suffering" as a referent to harsh medical practices of his era which included bleeding, purging, vomiting and the administration of highly toxic drugs... Although many modern therapies can be construed to conform to an allopathic rationale (eg, using a laxative to relieve constipation), standard medicine has never paid allegiance to an allopathic principle. The label "allopath" is considered highly derisive by regular medicine.

Other Answers:
The medicine that is mainstream now is called allopathic medicine in most parts of the world, where other forms also exist still. But in USA since that is the only way known to most people, it is seen as normal.
However, it was homeopathy (homeo=same, allos=other) that was prevalent before the rise of allopathy. In homeopathy, a person is treated in a way very different from allopathy. Allopathy focuses more on symptoms and their suppression at least in the initial stage of diagnosis. If you have a headache, you are given a painkiller, if you have an infection, you are given antibiotics (which kill even useful bacteria)...etc. But the medicine in homeopathy is actually an infinitesimal dose of something that gets rids of the illness in a natural way, in fact following the nature of the disease itself in a way (homeopathy literally means "producing the same effect) without side effects. And homeopathic medicines, even though they can be bought over the counter, is very specific for each person.
But to return to the term allopath, it was coined by the homeopaths who saw allopathy as producing an effect other than or opposite to the disease, and looked down upon it. However, in modern times, allopathy is more suited to industrial and commerical ventures and thus has become the more powerful of the two. And yes, it is the standard now... all other forms of healing including homeopathy are now referred to as "alternative medicine"!
