I'm 20 lbs overweight and like to run..what is better for losing weight, running longer at a slower pace or run
Answers:
You will actually do best by varying your routine between these two types of workouts. When I train for short distance (fast) races I am much thinner than when I train for the marathon(slower pace but much farther). I think this is because your appetite REALLY gets revved up when you marathon train, but when you trian for short distances you burn calories at a faster rate when increases your metabolism
Don;t forget to weight train to keep those muscles strong for your running to be safe!!

longer...and do it often...if you are consitent you'll lose weight...if you go up and down betweed workout routines then you will actually GAIN weight
Sweating is the key to burning calories and losing that extra fat running at a slower pace will not produce as much sweat as running at a medium or fast pace but do not over do it and keep drinking that water whether your running or not
just run!

Keep moving -- steady jogging as much as possible, but walking as a secondary -- for at least 30 minutes.
And do it first thing in the morning -- that's when your body will burn the most fat and you'll see the weight come off faster that way.
Also, once you get used to it, you'll find that running/walking in the morning leaves you feeling more energetic during the day.
Running or walking in the evening is fine for your cardiovascular fitness. But weight loss won't happen as effectively, because your body will spend at least 15 minutes just burning carbs.
Do it first thing in the morning, though -- before eating breakfast, of course -- and your body will start burning fat pretty much right away.
The more time you spend at it the better for your metabolism. Also do something about your diet. Cut out all carbs for a few weeks. No bread, potatoes, corn, rice, cereal, pasta, fruit, tomatoes, beans (except green beans) and peas. Lots of meat and green vegs. Drink 8 glasses of water a day
