Prescribing medication to a family member?

Does anyone know what the rules are or where I could find the rules governing a physician who prescribes medications to a family member? I'm wondering if the family connection is moot or if the doctor is held to different guidelines for helping a family member. Anyone who could help me would be much appreciated.

I do believe anyone can be your physician as long as they are licensed for the practice, though it is considered VERY unorthidox depending on the practice.
