Regular Coke or DIET COKE?

Which one is better for your heath? I start drinking diet coke because it contains less calorie. But people told me that it's quite dangerous for health. So, which one is better?

Answers:
Neither. I can't drink anything that contains caffeine but when I did, my preferred tipple was diet Pepsi! You CAN taste the difference... Even caffeine free diet coke is no good because it contains sweetener, which, despite not containing sugar, triggers an insulin response in those with insulin resistance (also known as Syndrome X or Metabolic Syndrome). This syndrome is a factor in the increase in obesity globally and is related to the things we eat and drink.

People - all I will say is do not let the fact that you sup diet versions of these sodas lull you into a false sense of security. Even though we are given diet versions of things some how, when there is sweetener present, our bodies mimic the insulin response as though they were the 'full fat'/sugared versions. Scientists are still not sure why this happens. Hence, I tend to stay away from Coke and Pepsi (diet or otherwise) these days (and a whole host of other items - the list is too long to post!).

The only liquid I drink is filtered water and herbal teas (which can be cooled and iced) as even fruit juice is bad for someone with Syndrome X.

Other Answers:
Diet Coke. No, it is NOT dangerous at all.... It also won't rot your teeth.
Diet. It is sweetened with aspartame, which is not detrimental to your health.

The popular diet sweetener aspartame won another round in the safety debate when a European panel of scientists said Friday there was no sign it raises the risk of cancer.

An Italian study last year wrongly concluded the sugar substitute led to higher rates of lymphoma and leukemia in rats, said the experts, who advise the European Food Safety Authority.

"There is no reason ... to undertake any further extensive review of the safety of aspartame," said Iona Pratt, a toxicologist who headed the panel.

The findings support a large U.S. federal study released last month, which found no link to cancer in a study of aspartame use among more than 500,000 Americans.

Aspartame is found in thousands of products, including diet sodas, chewing gum, dairy products and medicines. It's sold under the brand names NutraSweet, Equal and Canderel.

The new review of its potential health risks found that the number of tumors in rats did not increase in relation to the dosage of aspartame fed to the animals.

Many of the rats in the study had suffered from chronic respiratory disease and the panel said that was the most likely cause of the tumors.

The European panel said its assessment should put the lid on years of debate over the sweetener.

The food safety scientists were also satisfied with the current European level set for its safe daily consumption -- a maximum of 40 milligrams per kilogram (about 2.2 pounds) of body weight -- saying that the limit is well above what people consume normally.

"If you pick up little packets of it, you would have to take 80 of those packets into your coffee in one day in order to exceed this level," Pratt said at a presentation in Rome of the panel's findings.

The Italian researchers who conducted the rat study insisted that their initial findings were correct and pledged to continue studying the subject.

Dr. Morando Soffritti, who led the study for the Bologna-based European Ramazzini Foundation, also assailed the U.S. study, saying that it was an example of how "some researchers are ready to put themselves at the disposal of the industry" that produces sweeteners.

He contended the U.S. research did not distinguish between aspartame and other sweetener use and did not measure lifetime sweetener use.

Aspartame first came on the market 25 years ago. Research in the 1970s linked a different sweetener, saccharin, to bladder cancer in lab rats.
no matter if its diet or not, its bad for your health

diet coke still has alot of sugar in it,
I read recently that soda of any type (diet or non diet) has been proved to cause weight gain. They dont know exactly why since diet has no sugar and usually its the sugar in the soda that is thought to cause excess weight.
So, I would say dont drink any kind of soda pop. Water is is much better for you anyway.
i see it this way, i like regular, i dont drink diet, healthy or not whenever we are gonna die, we gonna die no matter what, thats why i just eat and drink whatever i please, and live life to the fullest
Be careful with diet coke. It has carsenegentics (don't know if this is the spelling) in it - which means if the diet coke is not stored properly, it will turn into formic acid and that is not very healthy for you (I'm talking more about coke zero than diet coke)

It also has artificial sweeterners in it which can lead to diahorrea (this is about diet coke)
I dont think it makes any diference. If your that worried about it you should just drink WATER!
DIET COKE RULES~
Diet Coke or Diet Coca-Cola is a sugar-free soft drink produced and distributed by The Coca-Cola Company. It was introduced in the United States in July 1982, and was the first new brand since 1886 to use the Coca-Cola trademark. The product quickly overtook Tab in sales. In most non-English-speaking markets it is called Coca-Cola light or Coke light.

Diet Coke print ad (USA 2006)Initially sweetened with saccharin, Diet Coke was sweetened with aspartame as soon as it became available in the U.S., 1983; however, to save money, this was originally in a blend with saccharin. After Diet Rite cola advertised its 100 percent use of aspartame, and the manufacturer of NutraSweet (then, G.D. Searle & Company) warned that the NutraSweet trademark would not be made available to a blend of sweeteners, Coca-Cola switched the formula to 100 percent NutraSweet, later switching back and doing without the NutraSweet trademark. Diet Coke from fountain dispensers still contains some saccharin (to preserve sweetness)[citation needed].

In other countries, where cyclamates were not banned, as they were in the U.S. and the United Kingdom in 1970, Diet Coke or Coca-Cola Light may be sweetened with a blend containing cyclamates, aspartame, and acesulfame potassium. Fans of the drink often express a strong preference for the continental European formula over the British-American version. A version of this is now being sold in the United States as Coca-Cola Zero.

Coke Light with Lemon from GermanyIn 2005, under pressure from retailer Wal-mart (which was impressed with the popularity of Splenda sweetener), the company released a new formulation called "Diet Coke sweetened with Splenda". Sucralose replaces aspartame in this version. Early sales reports for this version were not quite as strong as anticipated; however, Coca-Cola did little advertising for the brand, investing money and advertising in Coca-Cola Zero instead.

Diet Coke does not utilize a modified form of the Coca-Cola recipe but is instead an entirely different formula. The controversial New Coke, introduced in 1985, used a version of the Diet Coke recipe that contained sugar and had a slightly different balance of ingredients. In 2004 Coca-Cola introduced Coca-Cola C2, which it claims tastes much closer to Coca Cola but contains half the carbohydrates.

Sugar-free "cousins" of Diet Coke--TaB (released in 1963) & Coca-Cola Zero (released in 2005)When Tab was released in 1963, the Coca-Cola Company refused to use the Coca-Cola brandname, fearing that its flagship brand might suffer by being used on another product, the long-term viability of which was uncertain. Its rival Pepsi had no such qualms, and after the long-term success of its sugar-free brand Diet Pepsi, launched in 1964, became clear, Coca-Cola decided to launch a new sugar-free brand under the Coca-Cola name to compete with Diet Pepsi. With the well-known name, it could be marketed more extensively than the more anonymously dubbed Tab.

Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi have capitalized on the markets of people who require low calorie regimens, such as diabetics and people with other health conditions, athletes, and people who want to lose weight. In the UK, a 330 ml can of Diet Coke contains around 1.3 Calories (5 kilojoules) compared to 142 Calories (595 kJ) for a regular can of Coca Cola.

According to the company's UK website as of 2004:

Diet Coke is the #1 selling sugar-free soda in the world;
Diet Coke is the third-largest brand at the company, and the fourth most-popular carbonated soft drink in the world;
Diet Coke is sold in 149 countries; in 46 of them, where diet has undesirable connotations, it is known as Coca-Cola Light;
The top five markets for the brand are the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Brazil.
Some predict that Diet Coke will soon overtake Pepsi as the #2 soft drink in the USA because, over the last decade, Pepsi has lost market share (down to 11.2% in 2005) and Diet Coke has gained market share (up to 9.8% in 2005)
They are both bad for you. I would say if you can't live without, go back to original coke, as diet coke contains artificial sweetener...not good at all! :)

I think that either one is bad and refuse to drink soda... nevertheless, drink whatever you please. Diet coke has artificial sweeteners, which have shown to be possible carcinogens. Regular coke tends to stain more... O.o
I personally like regular Coke but I'd rather drink soda than that bottled water. I know that its not good for me but I don't what's in that water they sell. Where does it come from?
Carbonated drinks (fizzy) including all cola types are bad for health. So are fast food from McDonald's and all other buger-fries outlets.
Disney's 10-year association with McDonald's has been terminated because of "children obesity" which has been linked to fastfood - they cause all kinds of serious health problem as children grow up.
McDonald's UK is closing 25 outlets in Britain as people are more aware of its potentially health-damaging food and fizzy drinks.
No coke , No Pepsi , Pure mineral water will keep you healthy , wealthy and alive
Neither

Stick with the fruit juices and spring water. There are Energy Drinks that are good for you.
Diet can be harmful over a long period of time. It contains aspartane which can be cancerous. But then again everything causes cancer. Pop is all bad for you. I spoke to nurse once and she told me that when kids tubes get clogged with blood or fat after surgery that is what they use to unclog them. I never drink that stuff it is garbage.
