How long does it take for smoke to leave you lungs after you smoke a ciggarette?

Answers:
Smoke will leave your lungs when you exhale, except for that portion of your lungs that stays in the bottom and only moves when you take really big breaths.

It's the residue from the smoke - the gritty, grimy mess like the black tar on your fingers that stays there. A lot of that can go away after a week of not smoking. Some of the damage takes many months to reverse itself.
