During a recent Anterior Diskectomy, the neurosurgeon had to move vocal cords. How long before I can speak?

Answers:
I have never know anyone with such a surgery but this is my advice. Don't be in a hurry to use your voice. Let it have plenty of time to rest. Otherwise you may cause damage that can't be undone. I know someone who had hernia surgery and refused to listen to their doctor, he told me he'd never go against doctors orders again on any thing. I didknow someone who had a trach put in and couldn't make a sound for a long time because it bypassed his vocal chords. He didn't make a sound for nearly two years. If your doctor is allowing you to drink room temp beverages then do it when he says you can have warm or hot then do that. But be kind to your voice and let it rest, you'll be glad you did. Just write notes when you need to talk. Or on your pc enlarge the Fonts. Move your curser across the tool bar at the top of your e-mail screen until it says Font size and make them as large as you need to talk to people near your pc. Hope you won't have to wait long, in meantime use this site to keep your mind and hands busy and the time will pass quicker for you. Just be glad you don't have to wait 2 years to make sounds of any kind. : )
