This is an ever increasing problem in India. Parents do not want girls only boys. They have ultra sound scans and if the baby is a girl, it is more than likely to be aborted. As a result 7 out of 10 babies born are boys. The procedure is illegal but as it is so lucrative it still goes on. This will surely produce problems in the future. The reasons are unclear but it may be the Dowry system which still prevails.
