Im sure that you care about you son's condition. Instead of using drugs to cover up his symptoms, I would recommend improving his general health condition. Most diseases that effect us today are based on inadequate nutrition. Now it is possible to resolve most illnesses with a small sip of a daily nutritional tonic called Via Viente. This new product on the market has been proven effective in increase the immune system, lowering inflammation levels, lowering blood sugar, lowering blood pressure, and lowering heart rate. It contains the highest level of antioxidants available as well as 13 chelated minerals. It is made of nine whole fruits including the skin, seeds, and pulp. I know several families who have used this to treat ADD & ADHD in young people with outstanding results. Many move to the head of their class. Need more details: Write me at bruce@getvia.com

I am glad that you asked about Prozac. DO NOT use it for any reason. I have worked in the emergency room where many patients have come in with problems from Prozac use. It is still widely experimental, is used on minorities, and is basically devastating. Quite naturally, any doctor who has no ethics will swear by its authenticity. From the smallest children to quite elderly adults, the results from Prozac use are extraordinarily bad news. Many users of Prozac have performed violently towards themselves and others, even family members. Or, the person may become complacent and not care about personal hygiene or anything. This Prozac is not worth trying for even a little while. If you are personally involved with any one who requires medical care, keep a journal for yourself about the individual. This way, you can witness for yourself what I am telling you. You sound as though you are pretty intelligent to me. Who cares best for you and your loved ones better than yourself? God Bless.
Be carfull of people claiming they have the newest health remedies (Like the person pushing the product in the other answer) even when people claim that their product is natural. By claiming it is "all natural" they get around having to have the product go through testing. A lot of the stuff out there causes health problems just like some prescription drugs.
Most doctors are pill pushers. It's easier for a doctor to write a prescription then to tell the parent that most kids are hyper and do not need drugs to help them. Im 22 and have taken Prozac and many other prescription drugs myself. I decided I did not want to take drugs anymore and I think I am a lot better off without them. Prozac is more of an anti-depression and anxiety drug anyways. Aderol and Ridilin are no good either, they are synthetic speed, seriously. Kids that don't have ADHD take them to get sped up. All this pill pushing is sooo big because there is lots of money in it. THe pill companys hook up the doctors and the doctors are more inclined to push the pills. It wasn't that long ago when these pills didn't exist. Kids still got by fine. I don't think pills should be used to fix minor behavior problems. You just need to encourage the kid to focus more. Many kids could be diagnose with ADHD, but they just put more effort in paying attention.
I work in a residential group home for children with all sorts of conditions such as yours. I see alot of over medicating children, just for an easy fix to their condition. A few meds do help them yet it can hinder them as well. Just be careful on how much of a dose your son gets and monitor it so he doesnt end up getting to high a dose where it could just make him worse. If you are truely worried talk to the doctors about your concerns, im sure theres more then jus prozac for this condition.
Prozac is a dangerous drug for kids to take. It has been known to cause suicides. You need to make an appt. with his Dr. to discuss this and have him taken off immediately. Perhaps he is depressed in addition to having the ADHD. Get involved in this right away.
2 of my friends have ADHD, and one of them takes Prozac, she's been a lot better since she switched to that from welbutrin
ADHD is a very sore subject with me when people that have not actually studied it, researched it, and HAVE NOT experienced it first hand think they know it all. For some of these people to say that A.D.D. OR A.D.H.D. in a child is a behavoir problem, really burns me up!
My husband and I are not pill pushing parents and it took us two years of research, testing, several doctors opinions, etc. to figure out how to help our child. We are still working on ways to help her stay focused and healthy at the same time.
A.D.D. is not a deliberate, behavior problem!! I believe this with all my heart and mind. It is a chemical inbalance in the brain and like it or not, this has been proven.
Our daughter is now on a mild form of anti-depressant. (Effexor). Her life has changed for the better, she smiles now, she laughs now, she studies and enjoys it now, she is creative now, SHE IS LIVING NOW!!
As for Prozac in a child, I don't feel good with that either that is one thing I will agree about. Seems like an awful strong drug to give to someone that young. Try another physcian, one that helps monitor the childs physical activities, nutrition, sleep, etc. Our doctor is wonderful and has finally gotten things straight for my daughter. He sees her every month to make sure that things are okay and keeps in touch with her counselor. I am thankful to him and don't look at him as a drug pusher! We look at him as a life saver!
Every child and person is different. What works for one, doesn't for the other. Check out all your options and research yourself closely.
Good Luck.
You give him that and hes not your son anymore, try this and if nothing else he will have great skin:
4 organic oils mixed in equal parts:
INGREDIENTS:FLAX SEED OIL,SOYA OIL,HIGH STRENGHT COD LIVER OIL and HEMP oil
DOSAGE:one tablespoon every morning ,if child wont take it hide it in pasta or whatever but dont put in sandwiches as the mess would be awful
RESULT:For me Im calmer, more tolerent ,better concentration, memory has got a lot better, skin condition is vastly improved.I used the oil previously and didnt notice any difference because I didnt take it every day and now when I dont take it it shows up fairly quickly.I dont drink ,I dont take drugs,I dont smoke,I look after myself properly and if I dont I suffer for it.I also cycle 200-250 miles a week and thats my drug of choice today with the big buzz on race days.Im 43 years old and I thought it was all over 22years ago,DAVID WALLS,davidathenry@hotmail.com... let me know if it worked for you.
I ALSO HAVE A BRILLIANT CURE FOR PILES(EXTERNAL),IT INVOLVES 1 RAW POTATOE
Hey I do not believe that prozac would be good for any 14 year old, unless it is an extreme case. If you want to stay away from the hard drugs, consider St. Johns wart, it will have the same affect. With less side effects.
ya. my nephew was on it. but they took him off it. MADE IT WORSE
no. there are plenty of alternatives for adhd. i do not think prozac is one widely used unless he is depressed. i would consult another doctor to determine if he actually even needs meds. he is only 14 maybe he needs a less sugary diet. or he thinks a lot about girls. you know, his hormones are changing. he may just need to grow up. why put the idea of depending on pills in his head so young?
Via4bruce has the best answer skittles..listen to him!!
Hasn't it been proven that these (anti-depressants) are not supposed to be given to kids under 18 because of the adverse affect it has on them? Our daughter was put on Paxil when she was 13. A few weeks after she started taking it she felt literally compelled (she said she had no control over it) to get up off the couch, walk to the kitchen drawer, take out the sharpest knife she could find and cut into her wrist with it. She did not snap out of this until she saw her wrist bleeding. She did not take the Paxil again and not long after this we learned that it never should have been prescribed to her in the first place because of her age. If I were you I would get another opinion from a qualified professional who specializes in this stuff.
It's probably safe, but it may not be that helpful for ADHD. Take him to a behavior analyst. BACB.com
Prozac, that kills people as well, be careful
No.and it's adderall.
In my opinion, the US is highly overmedicated. I do not doubt that your son may have some medical condition, however I would begin looking for a holistic or natural remedy. Also, remember that it is totally acceptable for people to be upset, outright angry, elated, depressed... these are normal reactions to our every day lives. We should not all be deadened by Prozac. I am certain that some people actually need this prescription, however I doubt that your son is one of them.

I have been diagnosed with adhd as an adoult and I know first hand that is not a behavioural problem. Medication can help to concentrate and stop the "marry-go-round" in your head.I also have been prescribed Prozac (fluoxetine under other commercial name, 20 mg/day) and after researching the subject I found out that it is used to treat ADHD as well as depression or bulimia. It didn't help me, but it didn't make it worse either. It helps some people and it doesn't help others, no one knows why. You just have to keep trying.
As for being suitable for 14 years old - I don't know, but if I were you I would ask for a second or third opinion. All the luck in solving the problem.
